Hello everyone!
I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday
and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.
Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.
I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter!
If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat
hmm I still have fin aid left over from applying last spring. Do we have to do something special for the program. I don't have many speeding tickets and the tickets I do have are gosh.....more than 5 years old for sure. Does anyone know where they wanna do their clinicals?? I'm gonna try and get Nexxus in the woodlands. It's pretty close to me.
Guys unfortunately you do not get to pick your clinical spots unless they are dramatically changing things this semester. You pick the DAY you would like to have clinicals not the facility. You pick your first, second, third choice. Most of the time they don't even know what hospital will be on a certain day until right before the semester starts. They will let you know where you will be. First semester students do their clinicals at an LTAC or rehab hospital. The hospitals my first semester were: Triumph & Healthsouth.
I didn't mean you got to pick your location....they told me that it was first come first serve. After the background clears, then you can ask for a certain location. In the sheet that they gave us it gives us three different locations and NEXXUS is one of them! She told us at orientation that we could request that location if we were closer to it. And I do. We found out most of what we needed to know at orientation. Things could may have changed this year and be different from what you're used to. But this is what they said at orientation. She told us that when we get the background card, to bring it to Kingwood and register. When we register, we will have choices to choose from (the three that were on the sheet given at orientation) and they have a certain amount of spots for certain days and if the spot that we want is not filled yet, we can get it.
I have received 6 of th 10 books I ordered. So far they have came with the cds. they were marked as used on the web site but they are actually new!!!... My husband told me this morning that I could have also tried craigs list. Also you can ask the sellers from amazon or whatever site you buy the books from to let you know if the book does come with the cd or not. If anyone needs to have shots done, you can try a clinic in humble (10 minutes from the kingwood college) they are cheaper than other locations I have tried the number is 281-446-4222. For the physical I paid $63 at a clinic in new caney(about 15 minutes from kingwood college) , 281-689-8144, they were the cheapest I found near my house. They charged me 25 for the physical form to be done, and 15 for the urine test and 23 for the blood test. They usually charge 49 for the office visit but they told me that in the 25 they charged me for the form they "included" the visit. I have the numbers to other clinics that give the shots cheap if you live closer to antoine, baytown, laporte, or the southeat locations. If anyone needs any help let me know. I'm willing to always help anyone that needs it specially single mothers!!
o I forgot I get a discount at barns and nobles so if anyone finds any books cheaper ill help you get the discount.
If you need shots, drug screen, physical, etc., check with HCC. They have referrals for getting those things done affordably. From the HCC web site:

Appointment needed. $10 TB skin test. 10 panel drug screen $25. Physical $45. Must bring their flyer - print it from the next to the last slide here: http://northeast.hccs.edu/College-Northeast/College_Home/Departments/Career_Technical%20(Workforce)/WF_EMS/EMS%20Requirements%20online%20powepoint-1-09.ppt. Or maybe call them and see if the flyer is really necessary.
