I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!
Yep, that's the place! :)
Thanks!
Did you ever hear back about financial aid? I decided to appeal again this semester just to see what happens and I wears denied because I "exceeded maximum time frame." How is that a reason to deny an appeal? I think we're all aware I'm out of maximum time frame and that's why I appealed. For more time. Where did you find the info for the second appeal?
I've had zero luck with applying for CNA jobs and I think I may need some help paying for Childcare....
Well, I found out it's a 30 day waiting period from the time my appeal was submitted (June 12), so I should be hearing something soon. I'm praying I will get something, as I have had an unexpected medical problem come up and am about to go broke.
I don't understand these rules for loans. We've made the grade, we're serious, we're going into a field where help is desperately needed...They wonder why there's a nursing shortage!
I don't remember how I finally got to someone who pointed me in the right direction, but I was told to send my appeal to [email protected]. He is at North Harris. I was told to include the following information:
1. Explain why you are returning to a 2-year university (this is because I already have a degree).
2. Why are you requesting financial assistance?
3. Explanation as to the type of degree or certificate that you are trying to earn with our school.
4. How many semesters will you need to receive financial aid?
Now, between my FAFSA, which says they expect $0 as a family contribution, and the guidelines set out for the nursing degree in the catalog, you would think they would already know most of this, but noooooooooooooooo....

Wow, well I hope you hear something soon! 30 days is much better than the 6-8 week time Fran Montgomery gave me, so that's good.
Did you ever get to apply for WIA? I know it isn't cash, but it's been a lifesaver not having to pay for anything school related out of pocket. Have you looked into any private loans?
I'll tell you what, I will NOT be missing the scholarship deadline for the Spring!
And I know...this whole hoop jumping is ridiculous. If you're a bad student, you get probation. Even if you lose financial aid, all you have to do is do well the next semester to get it back. But heaven forbid you have too many credit hours! Apparently that's an unforgivable crime. :/
Good luck with your appeal!
Jumping on the whole financial aid frustration boat. I do not think that the maximum time frame should apply to anyone who didn't use financial aid to achieve those credits. I do not understand the reasoning nor the logic on this.
On a brighter note, I picked up my Student Nursing ID badge, lab kit & patches for the uniforms today. Now, I'm anxiously awaiting my Summer financial aid to refund so I can go shopping for everything else I'm going to need. It is approaching quickly and although very nervous, I cannot wait!!

Yes! My mother paid for my past schooling...it's not like I'm asking for ridiculous sums of money :/
Oh well. I sent in my second appeal tonight. We shall see.
