I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!
@Stephalump - Did you take the refresher course or did you actually retake the credit class (a&p)? I'm between a rock and a hard place...If I take the refresher course then I can only re-apply to lonestar, but if I retake the credit class then I can apply to a 4 year college (all of the universities wont accept the refresher course). I'm dreading having to retake the actual class.

I took the refresher. I was really torn about that, too, especially because the refresher was 415...more expensive than retaking A&P. But I had a new baby and really didn't have the time to focus on the class again and I was afraid I'd end up with a lower grade. I also came to the conclusion that all the 4 year colleges are too far away from me to juggle right now (I live in Magnolia) so I stuck with the refresher. But if you do want to go somewhere else, I'd definitely just retake it and get it over with!
Congrats, gmarks! And thanks for the heads up re: the stethoscope. You're right about people stealing them. I have a friend who is in the LVN program in Tomball, and people are always getting them stolen. Sad, but true.
I still have not heard back from financial aid, in spite of their promise to be in touch by yesterday, so I still don't know how that will turn out. On top of this, my dog baby, who is 12, is very sick. Makes me feel sick, too.
Stephalump, good luck to you. I have been on their scholarship for my past 5 semesters. I know they have made some changes due to people taking advantage of the system, but I have never heard about a lottery system, nor have I heard of them freezing funds because they run out, at least not for nursing. I do know that they have frozen funding for teaching certificates due to budget cuts and the school districts letting teachers go, but that's an entire different ball game. There is a national critical shortage of nurses, they have the funding, but since I have been on the scholarship they did change that they only cover your expenses after you are accepted into the program and not the prerequisite classes. I do get to purchase books where ever (Textbook Express across from Cyfair campus, barns and noble, online) and I do get fuel assistance. I also submitted receipts for my uniforms, shoes, and stethoscope, I am currently waiting on reimbursement for these items. I have had a 4.0 GPA each semester I have been on the scholarship because I do not want to lose funding.

Not liking the minimester. Wish I had taken a break. At least there are only 8 days left, but then again I am taking another class during summer 1. I cannot wait for summer 1 to get here so I can take a break!
