Lone Star Fall 2012 ADN Applicants

Published

I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!

I know....at first I thought that was just for fall and was thinking goodness gracious. So should we build bookcases in our cars to haul them around? dde0a

25 books? Is that for both years or just one? I think we need like...9.

Steph it's for the entire program, but still 25 is a lot of books!!

Oh wow...do they expect you to buy them now

haven't been on in awhile, and it is just sooo peachy that all these little dilemmas are rearing their ugly heads, at a time when people are sooo close to accomplishing their goals. I am worried about maximum credit suspension, just the same as many of you. I already have 60 credit hours completed, counting the 34 I transferred from my previous institution. I am registered for 10 in the summer, and 13 in the fall. The RN program is like, 38 credits, right? yea that would put me at right around 121. I know I am gonna have to appeal. I am waiting on a decision from the board of nursing, but I have already trumped that up as a lost cause. So, even though I am attending the June 6th orientation, I'm just gonna apply to Cy-Fair after I finish retaking A&P 1. That will boost my points to 11.6, which will be enough to (hopefully) get me in the program there. I just visited that side of Houston yesterday, going to the premium outlet mall. It was beautiful. But you Cy-Fairans are faaaarrr! I'll have to move to that side of town, since I am currently living two seconds away from North Harris. Now, as far as appeals go, I have a little bit of experience, as I worked in the financial aid department in Las Vegas last year. Each school is different, of course, but when it comes to maximum time frame appeals, schools are pretty flexible, when it's only a few credits left. The maximum credit suspension in Las Vegas was only 90 credits, so consider yourselves lucky. For all of those with maximum credit worries, it has been my experience to see that students are awarded, but with stipulations like "you must complete your degree in the maximum time frame," or "appeal must be filed each semester." Only time I saw anyone denied was for like, 150 credits, trying to get financial aid for a major change. In Vegas, there was something called a loan appeal as well, which was a different scenario from max credit suspension. Maybe Lone Star has that as well? Trust me, I used to take all the paperwork in and send the appeals off to the committee that governed that area of financial aid. Everyone has come too far to let these little issues stop them now!! Get those appeals off ASAP!

Sorry so long, I had a lot to say.

Steph yes we have to have them by fall apparently we are going to use all of them every semester

That is a lot of books to buy at one time, but when considering that I have purchased 37 books over the past two years it seems reasonable.

Stephalump, best of luck with workforce. Did you get a cost obligation form from Lone Star?!? Workforce will want that from the school. If you go to the business office at your campus they can tell you who to speak with at the school to have the form sent to workforce. I have been receiving their scholarship for the past five semesters. I do not have to get my books from the school, I can buy them anywhere, but I do not get reimbursed for the tax. I suggest you visit the workforce lesion at Lone Star. Each campus has a part-time person that strictly handles workforce paperwork and such.

37 books is crazy! We have two list, a have to list and a recommended list. The have to list was only 6 books with one program through evolve. I have already bought my books and I spent around $400 for everything including 3 recommeneded books.

On a side note: I recieved my stethoscope today and it was the first time I wanted to cry through the whole process. I don't know about anyone else, but I have been getting everything together and I feel like its so real. THeres no turning back now :)

gmarks, where did you get your stethoscope? Scrubs, etc.? I've been debating about whether or not to get a 1st class (i.e., expensive) one, or just to get a basic model.

I went and checked out my friends cheap one vs. her expensive littman one... I went online and bought mine through medisave.com. I bought the Littman classic ii se. The reason I bought that one was because it had great reviews just like the more expensive littmans, but yet its not a super cheap one either. I paid $80 with s&h and with engraving. I wanted my named engraved b/c i heard that dr. and others steal them from nurses. This way no one can deny its mine! :)

I cannot wait for orientation next Wed. I am curious to see if I have a different experience with Tomball or if I run into some of the problems you all have described.
