I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!
Hi guys, I haven't been on here in a while - apparently Im not the only one going through the financial aid nightmare! I was denied financial aid because I have too many credit hours too like some of yall.. Ugh its very frustrating to come this far just to be slapped In the face. I know that things will find a way to work out but, im expecting a baby in November so I am seriosly thinking about applying for next semester (I have to take a a&p refresher course since my a&p expired this spring) its always something I tell ya......but we will find a way through these obstacles!!! Dont give up!!!
Oh, I'm so sorry . That's never good news. The same thing happened to me last application period. I was planning on going last year, but I got pregnant and found out I didn't qualify for financial aid. Between the stress of paying for Childcare, school, and having a new baby period, I just decided to wait a year, and I honestly don't regret it, even though i was completely devastated at the time. Time flew by and it's only going to e easier the older the kids are! I also ended up having to refresh A&P 1...did it online and it was super easy.
Anyway, good luck with your decision and let us know what you decide! And congrats again on the little on coming!
If you absolutely can't pay for school and you can't get financial aid because of too many credits, a BSN at a 4 year college is always an option! Unless you have more than 200 credits, you should still qualify. I was initially planning on going to UT-H, but the hour drive (without traffic) just wasn't realistic for me at the moment.
Ugh. I'm sorry you're going through the same thing! What I don't understand is, I have filled out the FAFSA three times now, and to my knowledge, I haven't changed a thing (except for income earned). I was offered financial aid every time, but now that nursing school is finally looming...
Well guys, I got an email stating that I don't not meet SAP requirements. rotflmbo. Are you kidding me?! I actually/ finally qualified for a little bitty grant and they said that but yet I have been on the presidents list for 2 years now. This is all because I was stupid 11 years ago and withdrew from school two semesters in a row.
I'm so sorry to all of you that are having problems with the financial aid depart. They have a way of thinking that students aren't worth their time. So here is my advice, just in case you appeal something and it gets denied.. Go all the way to the top, one person at a time. I did this once, and I called the TEA on them and let me tell you that it wasn't 3 hrs later that the Man above all the lonestar directors call me personally. He was very kind, but wanted to know why i didn't go to the director. I stated that I did more than I should've and that one of the advisors was very rude b/c I requested her attention and that I wasn't going to be told to come back again. Needless to say, after dealing with them for 2 months, I filed a complaint online. When I was done, he wrote down all the names that I gave him, with dates, and he had the problem already fixed by the time I got off the phone with him.
Please don't withdraw from nursing school, and do NOT take no for an answer that easliy. Go to the nursing director, and BEG her to help you if everything else don't work out. they CAN help you out!

gmarks, I regret that you, too, seem to be a victim of LSC's suddenly insane financial aid department. Remember how, at orientation, the first financial aid lady told us we could come by any time to see them? Well, when I did that yesterday, the assistant at the front desk went over to her (I was looking right at them about 15 feet away - also, there were only about two of us there looking for help), then came back and told me they were so busy with the SAP stuff right now that she didn't have time to talk to me, but that they would take my information. Someone is supposed to contact me in 3-5 business days, but I fully expect to get an email similar to yours. ;(
I will keep your advice in mind, though, and I'm going to keep a diary of everything that happens!
Oh heck no, I knew her speech was utter crap when she was giving it. When I first was denied a couple years ago maybe? I got an email, but all it said was I didn't meet SAP. No explanation as to why. So, of course, I go immediately to FinAid and ask to speak to a couselor and was completely run off by the girl at the front desk I went to school at Baylor and I went to Sam, and NEVER have a been denied a meeting with a couselor before! The girl at the counter just gave me a paper with all of the possible reasons and told me I should get my transcript out and figure out which one it was, and I could appeal if I wanted, but it would take 2 months. I spent forever going over my transcript, but I guess it never occured to me that maximum time frame mattered if I'd never taken FinAid before. I finally figured it out from GOOLE. Then I tried to go back to talk to them about other gtant options and I was once again blocked and given a pamphlet!!! Not to mention the crazy wait times they give for everything. Totally unimpressed.
Ding, Ding, Ding - I'm the next contestant on the Financial Aid Nightmare show.
UGH!!!!
I have filed the appeal form and am completely FREAKING OUT but trying to remain calm to allow time for resolution.
I am completely and utterly frustrated with financial aid, as I called the number yesterday to ask why I received an email, yet Student Center stated "probation" instead of "suspension". Because it stated "probation" it didn't allow my file an appeal, yet mind you that you only have 10 days to file the appeal.
So I did undercover the authorization to release educational records form, which allows someone else to enroll, register or conduct business with the college. I'm very tempted to sign my mother-in-law up so she can go everyday if needed to get this straightened out. I'm becoming very stressed thinking about nursing school AND having to fight this battle each semester...who has time for this?
Sorry had to VENT before I BLEW!
Hi Candie - orientation was ok. It was less overwhelming as I thought it would be. It definitely made me more excited to actually START the program. Please let me start before any more issues arise.....PLEASE! lol.
I was surprised that some were arranging study groups already. I'm hoping to find people close to my area.
I know it's going to be tons of studying but I am very, very, very ready for it!
WBU - Thoughts?
Nooooo, TLCarter! Not you, too! Care to be part of our Financial Aid Sit-In?
Not sure who asked about Workforce, but the easiest thing to do is call an office and ask to speak to them about it. It is need based, but also based on how many credit hours you have and all that good stuff. If you qualify, it's a lottery system. I think the maximum amount they pay every year is $6,000, so it's more than enough to cover the cost of school. They pay for tuition, books, supplies (as long as they come from a supply store or the college bookstore), testing fees, scrubs and shoes, and gas cards. You can qualify, but the funding isn't guaranteed. They can freeze it at any time, so you have to have a
backup plan....it was frozen last year for a couple of months.
Anyway, there's an application and they need a bunch of stuff like birth certificate and SS card and acceptance letter and 26 weeks of paycheck stubs.
