Lone Star Fall 2012 ADN Applicants

Published

I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!

This does worry me I'm at 82 credits! And Im waiting on my parents tax info so I can do the fafsa, ugh now I am worried!! I defiantly need this loan. Couldn't I just say my degree program is a masters? I want my masters eventually...So isn't that my degree program??

People please pray for me that my loan comes through!

No, it's not the government that does the calculation, it's the school. Lone Star doesn't have Master's programs, and you have to be majoring in Nursing if you're in nursing school.

But it should still go through! I can't remember how many credits we're taking first semester...8 maybe? That only puts you at 90, so you should be good for the whole year! Just be ready to appeal in 2nd year in case you go over. You have a really good chance of getting it back since you'll only have a few credits to go. Just make sure you do it early.

Stephalump,

After the first semester you will qualify to get a job as a pct. You can work part time while in the program. I will need to become employed sometime next summer in order to finish school. Not because I need the money for tuition, but because I am a divorced mom and I am unemployed and my savings is not going to be enough to pay the bills for two whole years.

if you happen to pick up a job part time as a pct the majority of the time you can receive tuition reimbursement from your employer. I know st. Luke's in the Woodlands is hiring pct all the time. I am sure other area hospitals are as well, but I have not checked.

I am sure something will happen that will permit you to complete the nursing program. Good luck!

Ugh. I'm sorry, Stephalump. That sucks. It seems as though there is always something lurking out there to get us! I had to get fingerprinted twice because I've practically washed mine away the past 10 years. I called the BON last week, and they told me they were doing 'a name search,' whatever that is. Why not just run my Social the way everyone else in the universe does? I'd even be willing to go down to the local police department and pay to get my prints with ink and a card. If they don't come through with something before 1172 starts, I'm toast!

Are you serious? I didn't even know that was possible! There's no way they NEED your finger prints to run an FBI search...I'm sure they can do it with your name, no problem. I hope they hurry!

You know...you're like the perfect criminal. Have you considered a life of crime instead of nursing?

Well, I just checked my Lone Star email and got some great news from LSC-Montgomery. All of a sudden, after 2 years, they're telling me that I don't qualify for anything but unsubsidized loans, since I have a degree from 3 decades ago. Never, ever have they told me that in the nearly two years I have been attending LSC and filling out FAFSA forms. And never mind that ny 'Expected Family Contribution' is $0.00. So, Steph, I guess I am now in the same boat you are. If I don't get some scholarships (and I've applied for a lot), I'm not sure how I can continue.

You know, I can understand why people take up a life of crime. You do everything the right way, and they make your life as difficult as possible for you!!!

Ok - all of the "No Way", "That's not right" and "Are you kidding me" statements I just made while reading & catching up on all of the posts since my last log on is HORRIBLE! I thought the biggest hurdle was receiving the acceptance letter and getting in, and now I can NOT believe the amount of "red tape", obstacles and road blocks everyone has encountered.

I have had my fair share of these moments but am definitely out trumped by several of you.

Heads up! Shoulders back! We shall find a way to MAKE THIS WORK!!

Hope you are right steph, also I never take the max amount because it is way more than I need, this year when I am hopefully approved for the loan im gonna take the max so it will carry over to year 2. Can't wait for orientation tomorrow!!!

KnightGal, I'm sorry, but that's really bizarre. I can't think of a good reason no one has ever mentioned your intelligibility before, and it's a REALLY crappy time for someone to decide to enforce it! Here's hoping for some good scholarship news coming our way!

Candie, that's a really good idea! I guess it doesn't matter if you take out all the money this year or take it out over two years...at least you won't have to stress about being denied!

Or in the words of Finding Nemo...just keep swimming!

I don't REALLY need to pay my mortgage every month, do I? I am, for the first time in my life, clipping coupons and price matching before I go grocery shopping today. Maybe I'll save $10 to put toward tuition. If all else fails...i'll have no choice but to "entertain" men on weekends, and my hubby will have no choice but to accept it. ;)
