I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!
Thanks Candie. I'm trying not to stress until I get the final decision, but it's not working.
My husband has always made a really good living, but he traveled 80% of the time, so I never applied to NS because I was afraid to do it with zero help with the kids and whatnot.
He quit his job and took a lower paying one that keeps him home every night so I could do this...thinking we had it paid for to make up for the lost income Then I find out I can't get student loans and now I may not get any help from the scholarship fund...it's like a cant win!
I think I'm going to go eat an entire pizza and a pan of brownies ;-)
Gmarks, thanks. I'm going to wait for the final decision and if it's a definite no, I'll definitely be complaining and begging at the school. My husband is looking an extra car he has (he's an old muscle car lover) to pay for everything, but that only helps if it sells quickly enough. Ugh.
I was wondering why the lady who took my paperwork was acting so strange. I assume they don't actually plan on telling people about the study...I'm thinking she only told me because I did my paperwork before they introduced the program and I was going to want to know how a sure thing became a lottery. I never win the lottery.
No, I'm one of those awesome people who exceeded the maximum time frame. I'm in the process of appealing, but they said it's unlikely because I have an entire program to complete, not just a few hours. We don't qualify for grants, but we would get loans if I didn't have so many dang credit hours!
Candie, this would probably be out of his budget :/. The husband has put a lot of work into it, so it's pretty valuable. I'll feel horrible if it comes down to selling it...it's his baby...but I'll buy him something twice as nice when I start working! :)
There is a financial aid package offered to me for the fall and spring semester. How many credit hours do you have to have to get cut off? I know it happens, but just do not know how many credit hours it happens at. Also, do they count remedial math classes as credit hours, or is it only college credit hours?
You're allowed to have financial aid for 150% of the credits it takes to complete your degree. So if the RN program is 70 credits, you get cut off at 105 credits. I'm at like...130 or something lol. I didn't take our financial aid for any of them, but it doesn't matter :/
Remedial credits count.
And I think we have 30 chapters to read.

Have you checked with Workforce Solutions? they have scholarships to help students get through several different programs. I know nursing is one of the programs and you have to be accepted in the program before they begin helping with tuition and books.
I miscalculated my credit hours. I have completed 76 credit hours. The nursing program is 72 credit hours so that puts the cut off at 108. I will be two credit hours shy of the cut off.

OK Stephalump, you need to file complaints with the state and everyone else that you could possible file paperwork with.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I couldn't imagine this happening to me. I have tried so hard to get money and it seems like I keep getting denied, so I've been saving like crazy for awhile now just to make sure nothing happened to my plans. This is the craziest thing I've ever heard, but I know you can do it. Go to the college and tell em what is going on, they maybe able to help you out, and be able to tell you who the workforce commission answers too. Good luck girl!
