Lone Star Fall 2012 ADN Applicants

Published

I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!

Me, too! Glad I did it early...MH and St Lukes are already gone!

I am so upset. I made sure I was logged on at 8 to get the courses I wanted.

I have had St. Luke’s in my Lone Star shopping cart for weeks now, because I wanted to be as close to home as possible for my Mom, due to all her health problems. So today we can finally register, and I go in, and it won’t let me register! I contacted the technical people, but they didn’t know what the problem was, so then I called the nursing department, and they told me that they just found out from another student that we needed to be registered for the Preparation for Basic Care summer course before it would let us register. By the time I registered for the prep course, the only thing left was Conroe Regional. :(

Oh, I know. Actually, I figured that out at about 8:01...but then for god knows what reason, all the Prep classes were FULL, so I couldn't register for anything! I just kept refreshing the page for about 20 minutes until finally they were all open and I could register and THEN register for Fall.

It wasn't exactly a smooth process, and it definitely would've been nice to be told we have to register for Summer FIRST!

Sorry about your clinical :-(. Maybe someone who registered for it will switch or drop out of the program? Definitely check the day after people are dropped for non payment!

That's a good idea, Stephalump. I will make sure I check after the payment due date. Thanks for reminding me!! :)

I registered for St Luke's for Childcare reasons (daycare opens at 6am, it's 15 minutes away from St Luke's, already working on borrowed time to get to there, much less going further away),..if it wasn't an issue of getting in trouble for being late every week, I'd switch with you in a heartbeat :-( But if anything changes (still working on conning a relative into coming over on clinical mornings to get the kids off to

School at a decent hour),and i get some wiggle room in my schedule, I'll let you know and we can switch! And like I said, someone's gotta drop for one reason or another! Just stalk the system daily :-)

Wow, Stephalump. That is so incredibly thoughtful of you. Thank you so much. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, too, so I'll understand if you can't do it. Definitely gonna stalk the system, lol!

No big. Full Platers gotta stick together! I'll PM you if something works out.

Gmarks, EMPTY YOUR INBOX! I haven't been able to PM you today. ...says you've stored too many messages?

Just read my e mail about orientation on Thursday!! And I am so exited!! But now that I've read what some of you found out I have a few questions 1. I see people are upset on what clinical they got, I am confused I thought we had clinicalls at different locations throughout the program? 2. Also I read that you have to register for that summer class before you can register for fall, well I am a CNA so I don't have to take the summer class, any idea how would I register?? Any other info would be great to! What school had orientation Monday?

Every program is different, but year one we keep the same clinical all first year. I can't remember if we go to any other sites 1st year, but we still have to register for our home hospital and clinical leader. But we also have a small program, so things are a little less strict, I think ...I know some other programs just give you your schedule, and you have to register for what they tell you to or go to an adviser and have them do it.

If you're a CNA, they recommend you take Fundamentals anyway, because they teach you everything from an RN's perspective, but If you still choose to exempt yourself, you have to turn in documentation and then i guess they remove your restriction? I'm not sure how that would work. If they open registration before you're exempt, I think I'd register for 1172 anyway, so you can still register and then drop it.

Thanks stephalump!!!! Very helpful! And even though the programs are different I have another question maby someone can answer, I go to school on a federal loan I buy my books this way as well, there is no way I could attend class without the loan, does anyone think that this would be an issue? Or is anyone else going with a loan??

Y'all start in the summer, too, right? The only problem I can see is if you've already used all your student loan award this year. If you've already taken the max amount of grants and loans, you're kind of screwed for the summer class. We have to pay for it by June 1st and have the book pretty soon because we have to have the first 30 chapters read by the start of class.

Hmm thanks again! And yes I just spent my last loan dollars on pharmacology and kinesiology for summer I . But I may be able to get money together for just one class... Hopefully anyway shouldn't be more than $150 I would think...have you seen how much the book is?
