Lone Star Fall 2012 ADN Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!

Oh and yes July 30 is the start date.

I think it's like $88 or something. Only one credit.

I haven't bought the book yet, so I'm not sure.

Stephalump, did they tell you how to buy uniforms I was wondering if we order through them now or we wait till the program starts or what, exactly how is it for Montgomery?

They said most every place around has them and the patch that goes with it. We can wear whatever scrubs we want during the summer class and lecture/lab, and we can just pick up the uniform wherever. It wasn't anything exciting...teal pants and a white shirt.

Also, Federal loans for the fall won't be given to you for books until like 2 weeks before class. THe problem with this is that we have homework that will take a good amount of time to finish and two weeks isn't enough. I bought the books for the summer and they cost me around $90. I bought a used books of coorifice, and the other fall books cost me another $350. I have had my money for classes for awhile, but my advice is buy as asap if you can the ones you need. The fall book that we needed for homework cost me $113 new.

I would also tell all of you that I finished my immunizations but I didn't have a doctor fill out their form and now I have to have my doctor fill it out. YUCK! Also, if you haven't finished your background check and with you info, get on it now. There was a lady who was sending off her paperwork yesterday after orientation. If all goes well, 6-8 weeks, but if there is a problem, she may not be able to get into the program. THis is just a little information.

Well, I got a message back from Ms. Scott. She said she was a bit worried about some of my comments and wanted to make sure I fully understood what nursing school is like. I told her I did, and added that I may have overreacted (well, I was rather upset at the time).

Still, nothing like making such a great impression on the head of the department is there? Oy...

Oh no! I sure hope everything is okay. BTW knightgal, where were u sitting yesterday? I didn't think about it until after I left, but I think we may have been sitting by each other the whole time :)

Wait, what? You emailed her? About what? Registration? Yikes! Well, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm about 99% sure we'll all have at least 4 freak out moments in the next two years :-)

gmarks, I was in the front row in a turquoise shirt, probably fumbling with all the papers they gave us! Where were you?

Stephalump, I wrote to Ms. Scott and (initially) told her I thought I'd be a nervous wreck being so far away (it seems far away, at least), and asked about being put on a wait list. Didn't get a response about the wait list, but she seemed a bit worried about my 'nervous wreck' comment. I wrote her back and told her I was just a bit upset at the time and not to worry. I actually have friends here who can come and check on my Mom on the days we are in clinicals. I'm just used to doing everything myself, so I'm not very good at asking for help. She just wrote back and was very nice, saying she was sure I will do well. So I guess I haven't totally humiliated myself...yet. LOL.

I need to vent!

So they talked about the Workforce Scholarship last night and I've worked with them before and always recommended them and all good things.

Right before acceptance letters went out, I filled out everything and was approved pending showing them my letter. Bring it up and we'll put you through and write you a check!

So I had a bit of a fun time gathering together the 26 paycheck stubs they randomly decided they needed instead of the 1 they originally asked for, so I went up last week.

I walk in, hand her my stuff, and what does she tell me? They've decided to do a RESEARCH STUDY. They've decided to study what happens to people when they qualify for the program but don't get funding, by randomly choosing people to deny and block from funding for two years. Then they track them to see if they find a way to continue school or not. You go stand in front of a computer screen and hit a button and it announces if you're chosen or not.

I'm sorry, but how sick is that? Do we really need to do more research on whether or not people without money can go to school? At the expense of people who need to go to school??? Can't they just use people who make just a little bit too much money or didn't get the paperwork in on time, since they don't qualify anyway? I seriously got sick to my stomach. I didn't find out if I'm "chosen" or not because I had somewhere else to be and I really couldn't handle being told my school was paid for and potentially having it taken away with about 5 minutes notice.

If I get flagged, I don't know what I'm going to do. With a family of 5 and 1 income and no financial aid, my school budget is....zero. I'm totally delaying going up there because of my annoyance and nerves. Ugh.

Wow stephalump that is really messed up!! I would die if I found out I couldn't get any more loans, I pray it works out in your favor.
