I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!
It is not just that I got on it before they changed it. I was laid off from a job where I worked for over 15 years and was on unemployment. It was kind of an entitlement under the Workforce Investment Act. I searched for a job for over six months. Unfortunately, every job similar to my previous one required a bachelor degree. I only had my GED and could not find comparable work or comparable pay,so it was to my benefit to be educated in order to become reemployed in the workforce. I was not just laid off, I was given a second chance at life! :-D I am taking this opportunity to invest in myself to serve my community in a better way, to become a more productive citizen. SERENDIPITY!!!

Well best of luck to you! I'm sure you'll make an amazing nurse :)
We're headed out to look at a daycare for my little ones, then to take my wonderful little survey!
The only concern I have is the terrible market for for new grad nurses (especially ADN) right now. I really hope I'm not making a mistake by not spending more money up front by going BSN right away. Have y'all looked around the site? It isn't pretty out there. But I'm going to try not to think about it. A lot can happen in 2 years!
Appeal was approved and so I'm now back on the sanity train.
Please, please, please!! No more ROAD BLOCKS! I will have a heart attack. So relieved!!!
I'm just counting the days to get my last Hep B shot, so I can turn in my paperwork and anxiously awaiting for my classes to be registered, so I can plan out a schedule for my kiddos and make sure they are taken care of when I have my nose in the book 24/7.
it was suggested to me to get a part time job as a PCT while attending the program. I recently visited the ER at Texas Children's West Campus. There were several RNs there who only had their ADN and the great majority of them began as a PCT while in school. I think this is the path I will also take.

Are there any requirements to being a PCT?

That's what I decided to do. CNA jobs in hospitals are so hard to get with zero experience and I have no intentions of working in a nursing home or LTC first, so I'm kind of stuck unless I can get an extern/tech job after the 1st semester. I'm stilling applying for a ton of CNA, ER Tech, and Psych Tech jobs to try to play the numbers game, but no luck so far.
Tlcarter99. after you complete the first semester you will be qualified. St. Like's in the Woodlands is desperate for PCT right now and have been for a while. I do not live out that direction, but I have a friend who works there who suggested that I go apply now even though I have not completed the first semester. He is pretty sure I would be hired regardless because the hospital has an orientation process where you are trained by their protocol. I am wanting something either near my home, like Memorial City hospital, or near the Tomball campus
That's actually where I'm doing my clinicals in the Fall so I'm hoping I can make some sort of connections and get a tech or CNA job there. I put in about 5 applications there about a week ago, so we shall see if I hear anything! I have zero time to work once school starts, but I'm just going to try to make it work. I have a few friends who've graduated and found jobs in a hospital, but they either had a BSN with a crazy high GPA or they worked in a hospital during or before school.
I have one friend who graduated from Tomball who spent 9 months job hunting :/
Today I put in more applications!

Oh, yeah, I was wondering how you were on it before being accepted in the program! I was told I couldn't get on it about a year and a half ago because they didn't pay for prereqs, but I guess you got in before they changed, it lucky duck.
