Lone Star College 2019 LVN to RN transition

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

Hello to all! I wanted to start this thread specifically for those who were planning on applying to the various Lone Star College transition programs starting in 2019. I have seen and posted in the thread for the traditional ADN applicants, but I think the LVN-RN warrants it's own thread.

So, my plans are to apply to both North Harris and Kingwood campuses. I wanted to apply to Montgomery as well, but won't be able to attend there due to their 5-day a week, heavily loaded Summer semester. Just won't work with my work schedule.

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that I have sort of a unique perspective as I was previously enrolled in Kingwood's transition program in 2016, but was forced to leave after the first semester due to an unexpected family emergency. So feel free to ask any questions!

I took the HESI on August 30th and my application score will be 7.71. When I was accepted to Kingwood's program, my app score was 7.74, for any who are wondering.

Yea I think if you're already a LVN, they automatically send the blue card. They sent it to me last year when I was placed on the waiting list as well.

Is anybody else encountering this problem with Castle Branch?

On the upload page, where it lists "Emergency Contact and Medical Information Form", I uploaded the form provided by the website. They rejected it stating I have only submitted the medical information form, asking for me to resubmit with the authorization to treat form. I can't see anywhere where the authorization to treat form is provided.

I just tried to call Castle Branch and go figure, the only day of the week they are closed is Saturday.

Just a heads up to everyone who will be uploading documents to Castle Branch in the coming days, you too will encounter this problem with item #13. It requests the Emergency Medical Information form, as well as the Consent to Treat form, but only provides the former. I called Castle Branch yesterday and they said that the college did not provide the Consent to Treat form to them. I called and emailed Juanita at NH to let her know we weren't able to complete the Castle Branch requirements. She emailed me back, exactly this:

"Good morning Casey,
we will look into this"

So..there you go....

This is correct. If you are already an LVN, you have already been through the fingerprinting and background process. Unless you have had something change with your background check since becoming an LVN, you won't have to do anything. They will automatically send the blue card. Same thing happened to me in 2016 at the KW transition, although they said they received my blue card at the campus, I never received my copy from the BoN.

My number 13 just asks for emergency contact and medical form, and I've completed it already. Am I missing something?

So did mine. So I downloaded the form provided and uploaded it. It got rejected and said that they also wanted a "Consent to Treat" form as well, which they did not provide. When I spoke to them, they said the campus wants it but did not provide it to them. I contacted the campus and got a less than enthused response. I will attach a screenshot of what my Castle Branch looks like after I submitted and got rejected.

Ignore the 1, 2 and 3 labels. I used those when I emailed Juanita at NH to reference what CB had told me.

Mine was accepted. I wonder if I should even say anything.

If you have something on your background this will most likely prompt the school to let you know you will have to do fingerprints. Even if you have disclosed your background with the BON you may have to do another declatory order and this will also prompt you to do fingerprints

Hello, I have a question or two. I am a LVN who just relocated to Houston,Texas from Ohio and I am looking into different colleges to complete my LVN to ADN program at either Lonestar or SanJacinto . I just wanted to know if the list of pre-requisites a part of the program once you get accepted or do you have to have this all completed prior to applying to the program. I’m leaning towards attending Lonestar but I’m totally confused. I didn’t have to take pre-requisites for the LVN program. I just took the HESI and entered the program. Please help thanks a bunch in advance!!!

Hello, and welcome! Congrats on moving to the absolute best city and state ever!

So yes, to enter the transition program, you have to have your pre-requisites complete. They vary slightly between school systems but are generally going to be very similar. I know that San Jac requires Algebra 1314 where as Lone Star does not. Both require college English, as well as AP1 -or- AP2 and Pharmacology prior to get accepted. You also will need the 2nd AP class (whichever you did not take as a pre-req) plus Microbiology to graduate. I would recommend having them ALL complete prior to entering the program so that you do not have to take them while in the program, or have to take a semester off from the program halfway through to complete them.

AP1, AP2, Micro, Pharm and English 1 have to be complete for the Lone Star College LVN to RN program. For San Jac, add Algebra 1 to that list. You will also need to have competitive HESI scores within the last 2 years. Your sciences will also expire after 5 years.

Hope this helps and good luck! If you are considering Lone Star, I would HIGHLY recommend meeting with a healthcare advisor to answer any questions. Avoid the general college advisors regarding nursing program questions. They have a well established reputation of being highly misinformed and giving out poor quality information. Dr. Hereford is the healthcare advisor at Lone Star Kingwood and is AMAZING.

Hey guys, I'm a 2nd semester student at NH. Feel free to join our Facebook group, LSC NH ADN Nursing Class Of 2020. There's going to be some questions however, ignore them and just put in the space that you're a transition student. Looking forward to meeting you guys in 3rd!
