Any of you guys applying for Lone Star College Fall 2011 program? I calculated my grade, and I have a 11.42. I'm so mad! I pass everything on the freaking Hesi except for the critical thinking part. It was 10 point short of the required 750 for UT. My pre req gpa is 3.8. Do I have any chance at getting into the ADN program at Lone STar College.
The tiebreaker comes into play when you have two or more people with the same cut off score.
For example, lets speculate that last time at Cy-fair, the cut off was 11.652. If two applicants had 11.652 but one scored 100% in math, and the other scored 85%, the one who got the 100% would get in, the other would be an alternate.
Same applies this time only now they use different portions of the test as tiebreakers.
Hope that helps. :)
Good luck guys!!
Hey y'all there is also another active thread on here for "Fall Hopefuls". In addition to the lower scores being made overall the North Harris campus is accepting 130 applicants this time, so that will really help broaden the scope for all of us. I think they have extended the class size because they are moving the whole nursing program to the new Health Professions building right behind North West Medical Center. Rumor is it is very nice!! There are several of us that might not have gotten in last year because of a B here and there, but overall have good GPA's. So luckily we have a much better chance of being accepted this year. I have B's in both of my A&P's, but my GPA is a 3.47 because I also have many A's. I agree with whoever said that B's are still good grades, because they are. At any 4 year university a 3.0 and higher is considered a pretty good GPA.
Good luck to all of you!!:anpom:
Thanks Supaflyz and TXDiscoDiva, that really makes me feel better. You are so right. I know their are many of you "hopefuls" out there who are in the same or similar situation as I am. All of you "hopefuls", don't give up! This will be our year! And, it really excites me knowing about that NEW Health Professions building!
Can't wait!!:yelclap:
Since they changed the HESI this year, they do not know where the scores will be until after this application period. With the new requirements, you must pass all sections with at least a 75. Your score is now determined with a composite score from English/Grammer, Reading, and Vocab- composite total and then divided by 25. Math will still be used as a tie breaker if needed. They added Anatomy because the senior nursing instructors requested it. They had too many students coming into the program that didn't know their A&P and that is your life as a nurse. They will be making selections by putting all the applicants from every college into one student group and ranked by scores. They will then start with the top score and put that person at their 1st choice school, then go to the next person, and do the same, and then the next, and so on...until all the spots are filled. Good luck to everyone applying this year!
Ladies, It is so good to hear that you all are just as anxious and excited as I am. Sounds like all of you have scores that are good enought to get in this year. If 11.27 was the cutoff last year and they did not have a&p on the HESI as a requirement then most likely all of us on this board will be able to get in. We have all worked SO hard. It is not easy to get through all the "pre" nursing stuff but we all did it. Good luck to everyone!! I have an 11.76 score and my first pick is N Harris, second pick is Montgomery and third is Tomball. I sure am hopeful that I will get in and I look forward to working with you all through this experience. I heard that they will probably let us know by the end of April---- anybody else heard anything different????? I am SO ANXIOUS!! My nerves are bad. :-) :-) :-) :-)
Out of my past experience, I would like to share the strategy I have used finally to get into the program. I have wasted my time and money as I was lost in the 'A' game, I meant the acceptance game. It could be easily avoided if I would have tried differently.
Here are some tips that will help hopefuls to get into nursing programs:
1. Donot only focus on your GPA, Try to get good grades like A's. Try not to repeat. Some schools like UT does not like repeats or withdraws.
2. Complete all of your pre-reqs and get Associate first if you do not have Bachelors. That way you would be exempt from TSI requirements.
3. Take all of your sciences at the end, that way they will be up to date. If I am not wrong, some institution do not accept science courses if they are older than 3 - 5 yrs, if you want to use then for BSN after completing your RN.
4. Take RNSG 1301 if college provides. Even though some Universities would not accept pharmacology from other institution as it is considered as upper division nursing course. You have nothing to loose taking this course again at the University because you will see pharmacology throughout the nursing program. As much as you practice pharmacology you will do good in NCLEX exam.
5. Most importantly, as soon as you finish your A&P take the HESI Test, that way it will be fresh in your brain. You will just need to refresh your memory by studying the guides. Use several guides from the library. Do not just depend on Evolve. Keep studying the Vocabulary when surfing the internet. Get a critical thinking for nursing and study that one if your Hesi require critical thinking portion.
6. Get a CNA licence and always have an active CPR. CNA certification shows your interest toward the program. This is your first step of Nursing.
7. Try to work or volunteer at Healthcare facilities even if it is PRN position. It will look good on your status and resume when applying for BSN.
6. Now, apply to several programs that is available and within in your choice list. Donot just count on one program. You will be putting yourself in huge risk. Apply for LVN, RN, BSN by using step by step method. You can proceed to nursing one step at a time or you may apply seperately, if you feel you are ready and complete.
7. Lastly, get used to with stress and time restraint. Stress will be your best friend for a while.
Hope this helps... Good Luck!
A friend of mine texted me like 2 hours ago--she went to the nursing dept at Montgomery and THE ACCEPTANCE LETTERS FOR THIS CAMPUS WERE SENT TODAY 3/23!!! not usually an "all caps" writer but this one deserved it :) i do have some questions regarding the acceptance/denial procedure tho-- i applied to this campus as second choice, so if i get into my 1st choice that will send out letters in two weeks, am i going to get a denial letter from montgomery and have to wait each week until a different campus sends out letters to find out? It would be horrible if the next campus sends out letters next week, so then there's a possibilty of receiving 3 DENIAL letters before recieving an acceptance letter if first choice is the last to send out letters...I didnt think each campus would send out denial letters, but that was some new info i heard. that system seems (and will be) traumatizing with the additional wait and discouragement from possibility of multiple denial letters?!??!

If they aren't going to need to use the tiebreaker, wouldn't that mean that they don't have a lot of applications? I would think the tiebreaker only comes into play when there are TONS of apps & not enough seats so they then have to go to the tiebreaker.
I too have a lower score of 11.12. It's really disheartening b/c I have great grades, but I have 2 A's and 1 B (B in A&P). It's actually good news for us though that they changed the Hesi this year b/c it gives us a chance to get in since so many people aren't passing the Hesi. I don't know about you, but I don't think that a B is a bad grade, so I really don't want to have to retake it just to get into nursing, so hopefully this will be my chance. My score wouldn't have made it last year, but it just may make it this time....fingers crossed....Hopefully them not having to use the tiebreakers is a good sign...
