Why cannot women have a discussion and exchange ideas? No! They get evil and toxic! Where does all this venom come from? Is this nthe base of lateral violence? My research side of me tells me there is more to the story. What is up with the old gals?

Can you further expound upon your point? I guess I'm not quite sure what you are asking (or trying to communicate.)
okay, i try to have an enlightened conversation. I am open to other points of view, but I get evil old nurses name calling and ignoring the option of debate. I am all for being corrected and learning from others, but I cannot deal with those trenched ion nthier own opinion not giving an inch. Here is my root of frustration.

Here's a heads-up: people tend to become offended when one uses sweeping generalizations to label them. We cannot know what's truly going on with the "old gals" until we have walked a full mile in their shoes.
compared to you am am an old nurse :)

Linear thinking? Not processing information at a (real) professional level?
Not enough intelligence, worldliness and quality education.
I work with quite a few of these of all ages groups
However, pls don't group all the oldies together.... some of them are highly intelligent as there were fewer employment options available for women 40 yrs ago. There are some real smart cookies amongst them
I defend my dissertation in jan of 2011. I hope I make it until then
Ahhh. I see what you mean now. I guess it would be helpful if you gave an example. I do know that there is often a great divide in practice between the newbies(me) and the seasoned nurses. (i.e. What they were taught vs. what we were taught) To be fair I think those stuck in their ways *as well as* bright eyed bushy tailed open minded nurses can be equally as frustrating. I'd like to think there is a balance somewhere. I will admit, however, I cannot stand nurses who are resistant to computerized charting. Although, I'm sure I'll be resistant to something down the road and the 20 somethings will be rolling their eyes at me.
i teach nursing students, they are full of wonder and hope. I love their entheusiasm and sor of laugh at it all at the same time. I have been blessed with some glorious students who teach me every day.

Are you saying that in your classrooms, whenever you try to have students debate an issue, that it gets out of hand with people personally attacking one another rather than presenting well-reasoned arguments to support their positions?
I'm just trying to clearly understand the context of your frustration.
no my frustration comes from this site (recently). When you are face to face they tend to be very civil and understanding. It is the faceless posting of the internet where people get snarky and vile. When you can post and not face the music it makes one a little more brave than they would be in a room full of people.
