Locum Tenens Rates

Fellow NPs, I'm reaching out hoping to get some jet setting, paid travel, weekend assignemtns across the U.S.

I haven't received any offers, but have been asked if I'd take 65-70/hour positions (which is less than I make at my own shop).

If you're working, locum tenens what rates are you guys seeing? I'm reading about psychiatrists making 4k over a weekend, taking call, and seeing patients until they're finished which may be a few hours or 12 hours.

Are you guys seeing anything comparable to this, nationally? Or is this a pipe dream for NPs?

Soon to graduate pmhnp, I'm currently exploring job opportunities and locums through Barton associates was one company I've been talking to, they only quoted me 50s-60s $/hr, but this was for multimonth contracts with housing and rental car provided, I haven't heard of any one-off weekend positions

travelingnp.com, great resource that may help with your question(s). The blog owner is also a member here on AN, known as travelNP.

According to SDN, psychiatrists average $120 hr plus travel lodging and many go higher. At my next job I negotiated $78 hr plus travel lodging for a 8 week outpatient contract.

I worked as a staff nurse in a psych facility in CA a long time ago and they brought in a doc one weekend a month to assess and discharge pts in the psych emergency services. ( a poorly run place) and I'm sure he was well paid. I saw an ad last year for $100 hr for an Urgent need in a partial hosp during Xmas. I bet if you formed relations with recruiters you could get something like what you want. People will pay especially "urgent needs." . Learning EMRs and different systems can take some time. Keep us posted

I have a periodic outpatient gig I work on a Friday each month that pays $90/hr plus the same hourly rate for the 1.75 hours it takes to drive there (and back). It's not really locum tenens work though. I negotiated them taking me on as a part-time employee which allowed me to skip the 1099 headache.

I'd like to form my own LLC and start doing some paid travel assignments, but I'm making just shy of 200k here with my regular employment so I don't want to lose a sure thing. I also happen to like my regular office job. . I got some information of SDN which led to my pursuit of this "investment."

How are you making $200K? I saw you were posting to the student nurse forums in 14. If I pop on indeed, the highest paying job I've seen is around 150K. Do you have give a percentage of your pay to the owner for overhead? I would DEFINITELY like to pick your brain on how to negotiate for a high salary and/or what facilities/opportunities will allow for that kind of salary with a such a "fresh" advanced certification :) Good for you! I am a single Mom with no help from the Dad and TONS of student loans so would appreciate any advice!

I work for a company with regions. I staff solo fory region. They pay base salary, give standard employee benefits, and I get a% of revenue in excess of base salary. Company gets the remaining %. They tend to leach more from the therapist revenue stream. We're actually a 501c3 so we can't retain any large amounts of monies anyway. We're all financially incentivized and Republican Capitalists. Wait a week or so and PM me and I'll let you know productivity bonus (% Rev. over base) for the first quarter is. It's actually paid monthly, but quarterly figures are a better representation.

I model myself after Walmart. I'm easy to get into, we charge low prices (most of them have M-caid), and I see a lot of people everyday. If four people call wanting 5 PM appointments then all four get one. I've never left later than 7 PM, show up at 8:30am and stop scheduling at 6pm. At about the time school lets out, the waiting room gets stacked deep and people get seen until I'm done.

I am interested in your post, but curious what this means:

I staff solo fory region.

Thanks,

Julia

It always varies, but from what I've seen, FNP's can easily get up to $70/h locum tenens. For psych, since it's a specialty and in high demand, they often offer up to $100/h. Definitely shop around and always ask for more than the minimum you are willing to take.

@travelNP

i have to start asking for more.Last year I went from $60 to $75 just by saying "I want..." And when a previous gig wanted me back, I said. "I make $75" they said "We'll give you $78". I should have asked for more." I will next time. Thanks.

I've been considering traveling as an NP but so far the companies I've spoken with want to offer 54 and 57. One told me they could never get me 60 an hour. Anything less than 60 an hour is a pay cut for me in the long run because i'd have to pay my own insurance, cme, etc. Can anyone weigh in on these pay scales. I'm Family NP, looking for family practice. i've got a year in the family practice clinic setting and seven year experience as on sit medical provider at an in patient psychiatric hospital. Is the 60 to 75 an hour for acute care?? No sense in me doing this if I'm losing money.
