  1. How long did it take to get your initial DEA? There are older posts on here from several years ago saying 1-2 weeks. The DEA website says 4-6 weeks. I already am starting to have patients book with me so I really need it soon and am approaching the 2 week mark. I am in the Midwest. Tried calling the regional office got a full voice mail box and cannot leave a message.
  2. If you want the big bucks as an RN you will need to travel and be in a specialty CVICU, OB/GYN and dialysis all pay over 100K if you travel. If money is a top priority and I could do it all over again I would have done medical school not nursing.
  3. Good news, it wasn't a big deal and I have my license! I was just "in a pile" waiting to be processed and I let fear consume me. I didn't even have to be sent to the chairperson :) SO HAPPY!
  4. IMO CVICU - but depends if you have a lot of 'older' nurses or ambitious nurses thirsty to get into administration --- if you play the dumb baby nurse "beta" thing for a few years (seems counter intuitive because you feel like you need to prove your knowledge and skills) you should be fine and keep a target off your back
  5. At the time of my application I had a misdemeanor city ordinance arrest that was dismissed outright (no probation, no SIS, etc.) When I found out my application had been sent to an investigator I immediately hired an attorney who told me write an explanation letter and send to investigator ASAP. I did that as well as hired a second attorney to have the arrest expunged. I then sent a certified copy of the expungement to the investigator. It is like pulling teeth to get any information out of the board and I do not want to call everyday and be annoying for obvious reasons. However, it has been two months now and things are extremely financially tight. I looked at the board website for cases in which nurses have had their APRN application denied and my "case" is nothing like any of those cases as I did not lie on my application (I had not been convicted so I checked NO) and does not involve drugs or alcohol. So I am wondering what in the world is taking so long. My attorney said try to relax, the board takes their sweet time. I haven't even received a single letter yet! I am now at a point where I may lose job offers because this is preventing me from obtaining a DEA and getting credentialed. Does anyone want to look into their crystal ball and give me a little reassurance or have any insight into this? I would reach out to my attorney again but don't feel like paying $250 an hour when my livelihood is in limbo. I am physically ill from this high level of stress.
  6. I am hoping to set up contracts with SNF/LTC/nursing homes in order to do med management, evals, and therapy. I was wondering if you had noticed in your work settings, if there was an unmet need for mental health services and also if any advanced practice nurses had set up a contract to provide these services? I need some insight into how this is done and I'm hoping some of you have seen in happen.
  7. How are you making $200K? I saw you were posting to the student nurse forums in 14. If I pop on indeed, the highest paying job I've seen is around 150K. Do you have give a percentage of your pay to the owner for overhead? I would DEFINITELY like to pick your brain on how to negotiate for a high salary and/or what facilities/opportunities will allow for that kind of salary with a such a "fresh" advanced certification :) Good for you! I am a single Mom with no help from the Dad and TONS of student loans so would appreciate any advice!
  8. Thanks, what do you do about blood pressure? I was thinking I would have to send the patient to their PCP to have certain meds "okayed" prior to starting...
  9. I've decided to start looking into a completely online practice in psychiatry in Arizona, where I would have full scope of practice. I initially thought I would get credentialed, however, in order to be reimbursed by medicare, the "originating" location (where the patient is located) has to 1. be an underserved area (not hard to find) and 2. a location such as a hospital or clinic (seems really hard to me). Has anyone "set up" telepsych agreements with private practices? I feel very overwhelmed thinking about this process. I thought about a strictly cash payment model to take that daunting requirement (and paperwork) out of the mix. However: how do I get information such as vital signs in a telepsych practice? I don't think legally, I can rely on patients to take an accurate measurement and if I'm going to be prescribing meds for adhd I definitely want to keep tabs on bp as an example. Also, how the heck do I send people out of ecg's and lab work? Is anyone out there that has figured out a streamlined business model that answers these questions?
