in what state do you want to practice nursing when the time comes

I live in California and am doing my schooling here but I will go wherever life takes me, My husband gets transfered alot, one of the reasons I am trying to be a nurse we are marketable anywhere.

I'm not sure how things will pan out for me....born and raised and lived in CA until 13 years ago....completing school in the midwest....my last child started his freshman year of college at the same time I started my first semester of nursing school....

What I think I'd like to do is travel nursing....from what I hear I should plan on a year on a med/surg floor or something so I'll have some experience...then with my children grown, I think I'd like to see some of the United States....a lot depends on what happens between now and then....the one thing I've learned the past few years is that life has a funny way of getting in the way of your plans....the most important focus for me right now is to get through school and pass the NCLEX!!

My husband is military also, so I have college credits from a few different states. We recently PCSd to our current assignment, so my plan is to finally finish up all my pre-reqs by next semester and be accepted into a program and done with my BSN before we have to PCS again. We're currently in the midwest and should be here for 3-4 years. I'm so not picky about where I want to work in the end... wherever my husband is! I'm with catzy5, too, while it's not the main reason why I want to be a nurse, its versatility and transferability are strong selling points for families such as mine who are constantly on the move!

We plan to stay after my husband retires in 2 1/2 years.....but you never know, I can't stand the heat

Yes, it is. It is where I was born and lived for 33 years. My daughters dad lives there, and she would like to be closer to him. I guess I will just have to see when I get through.

We travelled through Tennessee a few times, my sister in law was stationed in Memphis (works for the Navy) and we visited her. I visited Nashville and saw the Rolling Stones in concert there AWESOME :Melody:

We were stationed in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. I love the rolling hills, the trees and the pretty houses scattered all over. We also had a REAL X-Mas with lots of snow. I miss it!:Snowman1:

Well, if you lived there, especially in the mountains, you would not love the snow. If I never see another snow again, it will be too soon. When you get snowed in for days, it gets real old. I cant handle being couped up for days. One or two is ok, but not when it goes on for several months. They even had to close the roads going down the mountain at times. No fun at all.

I remember the heat vividly! I'm prior service myself and was in basic training at Lackland in the dead of black flag summer weather. Blech! Although, aside from the heat, I really did enjoy the city of SA!
