Living and working in Bakersfield

Published

Anyone there who has experience working/living in Bakersfield? What are the good hospitals for employment?

Specializes in ER, NICU, NSY and some other stuff.

Did travel contract there a couple of years ago at the County hospital. I also did some local agency shifts at a couple of the other facilities. It is not an exciting or glamourous place but not terrible.

They have a nice mall even if it closes at 8pm on Sat night. (Now I wonder why their teen pregnancy rate was so high)

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I lived in Bakersfield from August 2003 to November 2005, and it was a beautiful place to live. If you're going to move there, I strongly suggest you select a neighborhood located west of the 99 freeway. There are 6 major hospitals there, so there's plenty of work.

The price of property in Bakersfield has skyrocketed. I bought a house in southwest Bakersfield in 2003 for $146,000 and today it is worth $320,000. But the rents are still reasonable.

There's San Joaquin Community Hospital, Mercy Southwest Hospital, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, Kaiser, Kern Medical Center, and other hospitals.

Thanks for the reply guys. :clown:

I sometimes visit a nurse friend who moved there. She works at Bakersfield Memorial and likes it.

There is a teriffic library next to the train station.

And lots of good live country music. If you like to line dance they have a great night life.
