Linfield Spring 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello guys, I am planning to apply to Linfield for spring 2019 entry. I was wondering if anyone is planning to apply and what your educational background, such as, prereq GPA, science GPA, and healthcare experience.

You were correct. I called UP and they comfirmed it. It's not a good news. Did you apply for Linfield Spring 2019?

Yeah I did but I was accepted at PCC for this fall. Unless they get back to me pretty quick, I think that is where I will be going.

When I called admissions, they said sept 14th was the soonest they would mail out letters, and sept 30th was the latest. That stinks about UP, but I know that Linfield bases how many seats they offer on how many applications they received. So big application cycle, means more seats will be offered. However doesn't reduce the competitive aspect of it! It sucks that there are so few nursing transfer programs here in Oregon. That's the number one reason I don't want to apply to OHSU. I don't want to do a 3 year program when I have a junior standing.

Yeah I completely understand. I have about 130 transferable credits and after really thinking hard about it, 3 years is a long time to add to the 3 years I have already more or less completed. I was an alternate at OHSU and I am actually glad I was not accepted. But my mindset was to get in wherever I could early on. If they called me tomorrow, I would decline for sure. That is why Linfield sounds so nice at 4 semesters and even the OCNE CC's around here. You are licensed after two years and if you can find a job, you can complete the final year of your BSN at OHSU online while working. I had a friend do that and she has been working in the ICU at Legacy Emmanuel (pretty sweet gig I must say). I have seen the curriculum for the final year at OHSU and is seems quite light if you have all the 300-400 level non-nursing credits completed, which I believe is 15 credits.

I talked to someone at UP today after seeing this post and they said it is only for one year while they re-structure their curriculum and it is only for transfer students into their program (not those already accepted or non-transfer students). Still sucks for a lot of us transfer students, but it could be worse I suppose!

Good luck everyone, I know the next month and a half is going to drag!

Hi all!

Spring 2019 applicant here as well. I have a previous bachelor's degree in Biostatistics so I could've applied for the accelerated program, but after getting waitlisted for OHSU's accelerated and thinking about the fast pace, I'm convinced this will be better for me. Finished with a 4.0 in pre-requisites, unless we're counting the bio or chem series (I'm not because most schools don't have it), in which case I have all As and a B+. Not sure of science GPA since I didn't calculate it out but NursingCAS left my cumulative at a 3.83. I've worked for the Multnomah County Health Department for the past year and a half in both a position that allowed for patient contact (though nothing involving me treating/testing anyone) and in an epidemiological manner. Getting waitlisted was a hard blow, especially with the number of programs becoming increasingly limited, but I'm feeling optimistic here!

I literally just emailed with Mindy and she told me acceptances will only be going out by mail (not email) and we can expect them between September 15th and October 1st.

So excited to hear more about you guys and hopefully eventually be in classes together!

Hi all,

I talked to Mindy today and she said they had about 150 "viable" applicants for approximately 40 spots. She said that they will have a more solid number around the beginning of September, so we can email her and ask again at that time.

Dang so that means about 1 in 4 solid applicants will get in. I am guessing "viable" means "stud applicant" right? :)

Only 40 spots? On the FAQ page is says about 72 so that's definitely less than what I was thinking / hoping for!

I am out of the Linfield race. I sent Mindy my unofficial transcript and she said my a&p gpa isn't enough and that I would not get into Linfield nursing program because of their new repeat policy. They only take one repeat; so since I repeated a&p1 three times including a W, they will take the second attempt. For a&p2, I repeated twice, they will take the first attempt and it goes on.

Viable means they "qualified" I talked to her just a bit ago. That doesn't mean they are competitive, just basically they met the minimum application requirements. She also said this isnt a larger application cycle either, its pretty standard.

Yes, what Aleon92 said, just who are qualified candidates. She said she would have a better estimate after September of competitive applicants and spots available....I think they just need to go through the applications first.

Well this is all good news, thank you for sharing!
