Linfield ABSN Summer 2021

Published

Hi there,

I didn't see a forum for Linfield ABSN Summer 2021 so thought I would start one! Any others out there? I am super excited about this program so my fingers are crossed. I know it is pretty competitive.

How is everyone feeling?

Hi there. I was given an interview with OHSU and was rejected with no offer for a spot on the waitlist. I have a 3.8 undergraduate science GPA, a 3.4 non-science, 4.0 graduate GPA (MS in kinesiology with a focus in orthopedic rehabilitation), and a 3.8 pre-requisite GPA. I worked for one year as a PT Aide, and just under 200 hours as a hospital volunteer in the ED. I was also a TA in my school's cadaver lab and worked as a TA for my general Chemistry professor. (I took extra general Chemistry that was not required as a pre-requisite.) I have over 15 years of experience working in post-rehabilitation. I was pretty crushed about not getting into OHSU, but I know that there are just so many good candidates with more clinical experience than me. No matter what, I will keep on moving forward until I get in somewhere. I know I want to be a nurse. No matter what happens tomorrow, I hope we can all stay positive and keep moving forward toward our goals.

Wow! You are really qualified and I can understand why you were crushed when you did not get in. I applied to OHSU's ABSN program, BSN program, and the Linfield ABSN program. I have not fully calculated my GPAs, but they are probably around 3.4 undergrad (BS in Human Physiology) and 3.8 prereqs. I have 2 years of experience scribing for primary care, plus some volunteer scribing at a free clinic, plus 5 years of volunteer first aid work through the red cross. I got an interview to OHSU's ABSN program and was put on their waitlist, I found out last week that I got in! I know quite a few people who got into OHSU in the past and got rejected from Linfield.

I think that OHSU's admissions process is way different than Linfield's because in a lot of ways Linfield focuses way more on the on paper qualifications. I did not even apply last year because I struggled some with two of my anatomy classes and ended up retaking them at a community college. OHSU allows applicants to calculate their prereq GPAs using their retakes (to an extent), while Linfield only allowed for one retake out of the whole sequence. I think it is two this year. Also, Linfield doesn't even have an interview process and I don't remember there being essay questions. I think that you have a really good chance of being accepted into Linfield based on all of your accomplishments!

Thanks so much for your kind reply. Positive encouragement always goes a long way. Especially, on this nerve-racking evening before decisions are posted. And, CONGRATULATIONS to you!!! That’s super exciting that you got in. I wish you all the best. ?

@sshall Congratulations!! Wishing you the best!

@TeresaLMI echo the above, you sound extremely qualified and I'm so sorry for that extreme disappointment. They don't know what they're missing out on! I admire your dedication and know that it will work out for you. Rooting for you!

Does anyone know what time the decisions will be released? I was expecting by 8am but still nothing... the wait is killing me!

Seriously. The application portal is so janky too. All I see is Joanna's contact information and the option to change my phone number. You too?

Yes. That's all I can see too. I think when they post the decision, maybe it will show up on that screen?

Yes!! It's terrible LOL And every time I login to check it makes me "update" my preferences for getting text updates. Like no, my mind didn't change in the last 10 minutes ?

Same, oh my goodness! It's been such a long road, I can't believe we're finally in!! I'm waiting to hear back from the 3 year BSN at OHSU Portland campus but this 15 month program will be hard to turn down
