LICH or Beth Isreal Nursing schools

U.S.A. New York

Does anyone have any experience/opinions about these programs?

I have a brochure from Beth Israel and it says there that the total tuition and fees for the first year is $12,810 (that's for 2 sems and 1 term). The second year is $8,710 (2 sems). That's for the 2 year option. You'll have to spend $21,520 for the 2 yrs. I don't think it's that bad because with that amount you'll be sure to be RN after 2 yrs. Unlike other schools who make u take classes u don't even need and cost more. I used to go to laguardia community college and I used to pay 3gz just for 1 sem and only 12 units. Aside from that, you really have to get all A's in all your classes to get into the nursing program. I have a friend who had a 3.4 gpa and still didn't get in the program. I think going to a private school is a good choice, but of course it will be expensive. If you want more info about Beth Israel, you could request for a brochure :)

Most sections on Beth Israel's website (including Tuition) are "under construction".

THANKS.

Also. does Continuum offer any sort of 'tuition forgiveness' if you work for one of their hospitals after graduation?

Sorry - their website is a little short on info.

Najahalei,

Both of these schools are very expensive, this is why I decided not to apply to them and just do the x-tra year and get my BSN. Maybe you should try to get Healthcare Plus for your child. It's a state funded healthcare plan for working people and it's free. You must make under a certain amount, and if you get a part-time job I'm sure you will qualify. You can also try applying to Medicaid (but make sure you apply to Medicaid 1st, than if you get turned down try Healthcare Plus). You can look this info up on the net.

One thing I did when I decided to switch careers is weigh all of my options. I knew there would come a time when I would have to give up my good paying, benefit having 9-5 job for something lowpaying and no benefit having job:crying2: . Don't give up hope yet, and just look at the other avenues of getting into nursing. A lot of people in my program try to discourage me from working at all while I take my clinicals, but these are the same people that have help paying their rent or bills. I always try to explain to them that I have no choice but to work or else I'm out on the street, so I no how you feel.:uhoh3:

Oh one more thing, try getting an administrative job in a hospital, a lot of times you can work part-time (like 20 hours) and still get benefits. Even though it's a hard to shell to crack, give it a try.:)

yes...I know. I have taken into consideration everything that you said. The healthcare plus, the admin job at a hospital (which is what I'm looking for right now) etc... I feel like I'm hanging off of a bridge over the ocean by one arm, knowing I'll eventually have to let go...but I CAN'T SWIM!!! =)

I'll make a decision at some point.... Thank you

....for responding to my tuition question. I appreciate the info.

Does anyone know if Continuum does tuition forgiveness if you work for one of their hospitals since Beth Israel school of Nursing is part of Continuum as well?

Many thanks again!

I live in Brooklyn, not too far from the hospital. The thing I'm worried aout is the schedule..I work 10 hours a day 7:30-5:30...I may have to quit my job, but i don't think it would be a wise decision being that I have a 3 year old in daycare who needs health insurance. And my savings aren't lookin gtoo plentiful! LOL! Right now I am taking some pre-req's at BMCC but I'm dying to get this show on the road!!!!

Najahlei,

Did BMCC give you a hard time about signing up for pre-req's? If not, how did you explain to them your reason for taking them. When I started taking my pre-req's they(BMCC) literally wanted me to sign up for the program if I wanted to take my pre-req's and I told them I just wanted to pay for the courses that I needed so they sent me to the Dean of Biology and I had to wait with all these other people and was instructed to take courses that were out of sequence since I wasn't a BMCC student and they didn't care. I have to take two more pre-req's then I can start looking for a school just like you. BTW...I also have a child that is in daycare and it is not easy I feel your pain. :crying2:

That is crazy!!!! So, if I am correct, you want to attend as a non-degree student? A friend of mine did that and they gave her a little bit of the runaround but she ended up getting the classes she wanted. She had to pay more though. Who advised you? Someone from the nursing department or a regular advisor? In my case, I was a transfer from Hunter (which I am slowly regretting) and I just spoke to a transfer advisor. I didn't apply as a nursing major for fear that they wouldn't accept me. So I applied as Liberal Arts. The first semester, someone registered me in one of the auditoriums. Last semester though, I skipped advisement altogether and just registered online.

So what did you end up doing? Or are you still in the process of getting things straight? Feel free to PM me as well...

howdy! im currently at LICH and i love it. ive been at beth israel too and i would say that LICH is not that competitive. i dont know...maybe its just me. when are you planning to apply? they are the same continuum anyways.

Hi can you tell me how I find out more about LICH, I do not know what the full name is, I would be interested in applying, thanks

[bANANA][/bANANA]hi, its full name is Long ISland College Hospital School of Nursing. u must hurry if youre planning to apply on fall. i know theyre already interviewing student and there has been an nln exam going on in school. good luck.

i forgot to tell u that i think its better if u go to school and get an application form. wat skol are u now anyway? im mostly there in skol every tue and thurs.

Hi Najahli,

I also go to BMCC taking pre -requisites for nursing, also live blocks from LICH. Did you recieve your packet yet.

Do you know if their is going to be another open housel.

Girl, I think LICH or BI is the way to go for this...

hi,

I am currently @ BMCC taking pre-reqs.

I am really looking into LICH OR BI

i live 3 blocks from lich.

I am very up in the air about leaving my job and going to school fulltime eventhough i know this is how it will get done in a decent amount of time, i hear people with high GPA's arent getting into the program at bmcc and other community colleges.

To anyone that goes to lich, there is time for people to work pt. isnt there.

i am thinking of just taking out a big fat loan and doing it.

I am also a single mother of a 16 year old boy, who is on scholarship to a private school, but still pay some form of tuition...

and also pay rent, utilities ect....but i am starting to think the loan and a pt job...will work and its only 2 years...

can someone please give me their ideas.

thanks

I'm trying to find the website for lich scool of nursing?do they have one? Also, would anyone know if you have to take nln exam if your already an lpn for beth isreal?

Hey Rosey;

This is the closest I've found to a website about the school. http://www.universities.com/On-Campus/Long_Island_College_Hospital_School_Of_Nursing.html I was considering going there myself. I'm taking my preReq's now at Laguardia but while it's a great school the competion is insane. So I'm about to transfer to Medgar Evers. Good Luck
