Licensure in VT or CA?

Published

Arial Black4 I'm puzzled If I will take the NCLEX in Vermont or Cali?? coz most of the nurses here in the Philippines advised me to apply in Vermont because the processing is much more shorter compared to Cali? :scrying: please I need your help to make up my mind to which state will I apply.... Thanks and God Bless. :blushkiss

Where do you really plan to work in the US? If you're question is which would process your documents faster for an ATT, then VT might be faster than CA. However, if you would be working in CA, then you'd still need to apply for endorsement so that you could have your license in CA. If CA doesn't process endorsements quickly, (you better find out first if they do) then you defeat your purpose of applying in another State then endorsing it later on because eventually you'll still have to wait for the endorsement process to be completed so that you could work as a Registered Nurse in CA. Just my thoughts.....Good luck!

The issue is that many states do not issue a license unless you have a social security number - California is one of them, and Vermont/New Mexico are not. Vermont have advised that it will take 3-4 months from when they receive your application until they approve you to sit the NCLEX. New Mexico is faster, and they issue a license without SSN. You can then endorse the license to California if you meet CA-BON requirements (they issue the license if you go to the office on the same day).

Hi guys! I'm a licensed nurse in the philippines. I would just like to ask if it is it true that we need to have atleast 50 days or 400 hours of nursing work experience before we can apply for NCLEX in vermont? How long would it take to endorse a Vermont RN license to California? Hope you guys can give me an estimated time frame.

You can endorse your VT license to CA in one day if you visit their office. Yes, 400 hours of nursing work is required in VT---but I read in one post before that someone wrote his/her RLE experiences instead. Maybe you can contact the clerk in VT BON to verify if this could be legitimately done.

You do not have to have either a foreign license or nursing experience, however just write in your letter to the board that you are a new graduate to explain why you answered "no" to that question about experience on the application.

Does anybody know how many months before the ATT from NCLEX Vermont expire? Many thanks. ;)
