License required???

I am currently attending school in Colorado, but I know that I want to work in Texas. How should I handle this? Should I just finish my education here and then take the NCLEX test in Texas or is that even possible?

Please offer some feedback.

I think it is possible. Check with the Texas licensing board. They will be able to tell you for sure. They may even have a web site. Hope this helps some.

A further word of encouragement. Your board of nursing can often be a valuable resource. They can be a big help to nurses who have nursing practice questions (or practical questions, such as this one). Most boards of nursing have consultants on hand whose job is to answer questions about nursing in that state, and I've found the folks at the board -- at least in North Carolina -- to be unfailingly helpful and courteous.

I go to school in Illinois and we were told by our instructors that we can test in ANY STATE after graduating. We were further told that we can sit for state boards in illinois and recieve a license for any state.

I cannot garauntee any of this information, just passing on what we were told.

I knew of two people who went to school in Florida and took the NCLEX in Georgia. It's just a matter of money and paperwork.

Yes, you can take the NCLEX in any state, and receive that state's nursing license. You can also sit for boards in your own state, obtain your state's nursing license, move to another state, and apply for licensure by endorsement.

All that is necessary is for you to contact the nursing board in the state you wish to move to, and ask for the information you will need to be mailed to you.

As of July 2002, texas and 13 other states have enacted a multi-state licensure...If you have a valid unrestricted license in 1, then you can prctice in all...Sorry, Colrado isn`t one of them For that reason ,I `d would think that testing in Texas would be good idea. Good luck...

I graduated in December of last year, took boards in Arkansas and got a license in Louisiana (graduated from school in Louisiana). Some of the people I graduated with took the boards here for license in another state, some moved to the state where they would be getting licensed and took the boards, and some who didn't pass boards the first two tries in Louisiana moved to Mississippi where they'll let you take the boards an unlimited number of times till you either pass or give up. Once they are licensed they can move back to Louisiana and apply to the SBON to become licensed here.

I went to school in Kansas for my LPN and my RN and I took my boards in Colorado. I had a classmate who went to school with me and took her boards for Texas and now works there. Just check with the Texas state board of Nursing for any requirements above and beyond your state. Hope that helps... good luck!!
