Let's take a moment to be positive

I will be starting a BSN program this fall. I see all these horror stories about nursing school on here. How it is horrible. How it is the worst thing in the world. How it basically mimics hell itself.:flamesonb I understand that it is information overload and takes up a great deal of time. I know it will be stressful and challenging. I would like to hear something people actually enjoyed in nursing school. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING POSITIVE TO SAY ABOUT NURSING SCHOOL?!

I finished my BSN program last year, and I can say nursing school is grueling. It's emotionally and physically demanding. You will be studying for hours and hours, sometimes by yourself, and sometimes in study groups.

But through the 4 years at my university, I would change nothing about it. Although at times it seemed like too much knowledge to consume, it so rewarding! Each clinical day I had, I learned something new.. I made connections with my patients, with my professors, and with my classmates. I have lasting mentors and friends to this day.

When you come out and graduate, you will realize that nursing school has evolved you to be a more knowledgeable and compassionate person. Not to mention you will definitely be a great critical thinker! :)

GOOD LUCK! Nursing school isn't really that bad, it's definitely what you make out of it! So make it a fun one.

The most positive thing I can say about nursing school is that I have made some really good friends. I think there is a comradery because of the difficulties, frustrations, irritations, and inconsideracy we face in nursing school. Also, I love the things I learn when we're lucky enough to have an instructor that knows the material (some don't).

I had a hell of a road in nursing school - in my first semester I endured divorce, in my second semester I lost my home , in my third semester I had to move from my home into my parents house with my children, in my fourth semester I lost my car, in my final semester I have endured much rejection... but all in all I wouldn't trade nursing school for the world. Some people are just meant to be nurses - their heart and convictions build them for nothing else. That is me. If you are the type to get into the field for the "money" you will definitely rue the day you applied because it truly is a pain in the tucus. If you are one of the ones with that passion, that conviction, that commitment - then nursing school will be worth every penny, every drop of sweat, every tear, and every hour of lost sleep. I made amazing friends, learned more than ever before, and recognized my calling - now if I could just find a residency lol....

There is alot of information but I am glad that I am learning it. I especially enjoy nursing school because of how it applies to outside of school. I now understand nutrition, f&e, normal ranges for vitals which is important when taking care of a family. I love it when my son or husband gets sick and I know what to look for to see if they should take an expectorant or suppressant, I love knowing WHY they should drink plenty of fluids. I like taking care of people and knowing WHY to perform certain actions. There is alot to do, but it is worth the new outlook on life that you recieve for learning it!

Well, I graduate in 8 months from an accelerated BSN program, so here's my 2 cents. I am so happy to be able to learn what I have a passion for (medicine) without going to Med School! I want hands-on and let me tell you, I'm getting exactly that. I like being taught by professors who excelled in their fields (all were floor nurses at some point), the students that survived to this point care more about this program and finishing than anything else, and I have an excuse to have caffeine at high levels almost constantly. I have a prior BA in Psych and I enjoy the challenge of nursing school more than I ever did the easy Psych program. I have a ton of friends that are there through everything...they've become my second family. I love nursing school and I'll honestly be sad when it's over. I think it's fun sitting in libraries (or in the nice weather - rare as the chance may be) and chat about what we are learning or the kinds of nurses we'll be without having the pressure or responsibility of that reality. That said, it is extremely riggerous, time-consuming, and every kind of exhausting imaginable sometimes - but it brings you close to people and forces you to change (I think for the better). Good luck and know that WAY TOO MANY people make things sound a lot worse than they really are. Getting through is totally doable as long as it's your priority and sometimes to the exclusion of everything else.

My motto lately has become, "i love it,even when i hate it!" lol. School is tough. But it is for good reason. Just think about a nurse taking care of you or a loved one. Wouldnt you feel beter knowing they worked their butt off to reach their goal and dream of being a great nurse? I keep my eyes on the end goal! It will be worth it in the end!Oh and i saw a comment earlier, and i want to reiterate. Do not get bent out of shape when you dont get"A"s. B is the new for me lol

I tried posting a response to this once and my computer glitched on me -- hopefully this time it will let me post.

I am a graduate of a 12 month accelerated BSN program, and I totally LOVED nursing school! In fact, if I could only find someone to pay me to go, I would have happily been a student for the rest of my life. I love to learn, and you definitely learn tons in nursing school. I honestly didn't think the classes were SO terribly hard either. Clinicals were challenging just because it was such a new experience for me, but I loved those too!

Nursing school is what you make of it. If you enter with a positive attitude, it can be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences in your life. I hope you love nursing school as much as I did!

The best thing about it is that it comes to an end!

But, I tell you, how glad you will be that you endured it and didn't give up.

It is no easy task and you can take great pride in having conquered it.

Funny thing: we were so flat on our graduation day. None of us could believe we actually did it and it was over!!!

That is some beautiful inspiration!! Thank you :redbeathe
