Let's take a moment to be positive

Published

I will be starting a BSN program this fall. I see all these horror stories about nursing school on here. How it is horrible. How it is the worst thing in the world. How it basically mimics hell itself.:flamesonb I understand that it is information overload and takes up a great deal of time. I know it will be stressful and challenging. I would like to hear something people actually enjoyed in nursing school. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING POSITIVE TO SAY ABOUT NURSING SCHOOL?!

I'm reading and hoping to hear it too ;o).

I'd love to see a few posts sharing the positives of the BSN program in comparison to others showing what they enjoyed most about their AN program! (*Hope I'm not muddying up the op's original request too much...)

Do any students in the declared Nursing major at four year universities do their courses in some suggested/prescribed manner the school sets you up to do -- or do they take whatever sequence in their first two years that feels sane from the required list but do it in the order of their preference - and then do all Nursing coursework 'only' for the final two years?

Anyone here that is doing their AN mixing the Nursing courses in with other courses, not just doing the pre reqs and any other required ones ie a second English course, or a stats course etc? Or do 99 percent of folks working on their AN degree do everything except any Nursing courses the first four semesters and then all Nursing courses/clinicals during the last four semesters?

Looking forward to some new posts on what some people really like about their programs, thanks!

I went to an adn program and I loved nursing school. Sure it was tough and not every day was peachy but I expected that. I made the best of what I could. The way I see it there was no reason to whine about all the work we had to do, that is what I had to do to be a competent nurse. If i didnt do well on a test the i studied harder to do better on the next.To become my dream was my end goal and that is what I kept in sight.

IKt is extremely difficult and sucks away your time. BUT if you do stay positive, enjoy attending classes, and embrace the good with the bad, you can enjoy nursing school. You are working towards something and to be negative through it will drag you down.

Nursing school can be fun; it's all in how you look at it :) (PS Do NOT obsess with getting As. VERY difficult so just do you very best and be happy with any pass. )

here is me being positive about NS: All good things must come to an end, & you'll graduate.

now, let me go back to what its REALLY like, doing these busy work assignments up until graduation...instead of studying for finals or relaxing.. ehhhhh

I love nursing school! I am a second career student, and have my BA in Sociology already. Im a mom of 4 kids, and married. I quit my well paid job to go what I felt I was truly chosen to do.

I graduate in 1 yr and am super excited. Nursing school is HARD work! BUT i go every day eager to learn and excited. I don't always understand the material, I study hard, my kids don't get as much time as I could give them(But let's be honest, my previous career was a major drain on my energy and tons of overtime, on call, etc that it's not that different).

I love clinicals, love dealing with the patients(yes even the hard ones...I view it as a learning experience).

I like to stay busy, and this definitely keeps me busy.

PS I am in an ADN program. and Im a solid B student :)

I'm so happy to hear that :) ^^^

My first time around, I gain 15 new life long friends. I miss going to lunch, hanging out after school with, and studying with them. This time around I will have about 60 more life long friends :)!

It's good to hear some positive thoughts! I personally love learning and I'm hoping I'll enjoy nursing school more than pre-reqs. Pre-reqs were full of things that made me a "more well rounded student" but had nothing to do with what I want to do. I'm so glad I'll have all nursing related classes. I feel I will be more anxious to learn. A friend that is graduating told me that it is not bad like people make it out to be. There is just a lot of information but it's not something I won't understand. I guess I'll have to see for myself!

Just make sure never to let your guard down and relax during your time in your nursing program. Assignments can stack up very quickly and you will be overwhelmed in no time.Be organized, don't fall behind, be informed at all times what is expected of you and yeah this is going to take a lot of time from your social life.It is not easy but with persistence it is doable.Good luck!

I am in an ASN program, but so far I am very much enjoying it. I am a second career student with 3 kids. I am not the oldest or the youngest in my class, but we all have a common goal. I have met some very interesting people and so far I am learning bunches. I am so glad that I picked the program I am in. I am almost finished with my first quarter only 8 more to go.... lol!

I truly believe that you make it as good or as bad as you want it to be. I choose to be positive, because I want to be there.

Good luck to you and stay positive!!!

I just finished my first term in a BSN program. There are so many positives about Nursing school. Yes it's challenging, but it is equally rewarding! I love it. Keep a positive outlook, remember that you get out what you put in, and stay organized.
