hi everyone! i'm holli. i took boards on june 13th and passed with 75 questions. i am starting work on july 18th at the only hospital i ever wanted to work for. it is a great pediatric facility! i will be on the (post-op) surgical floor, and we also have all of the endocrine kids. also, they just added an epilepsy monitoring unit, for overnight monitoring and for the brain mapping they are doing. i expressed an interest in that, so they will cross-train me in that unit as well. i can't wait to get started!
so, tell me about you...
holli, rn
thanks janfrn, I dont feel like such a dumbass now. :)Tracylvn, like I said I JUST JUST got into nursing, we get certified in first aid and CPR with the Allied Heath Program. I was just using that as an example. but your right im not a nurse so I guess i shouldn't be on this forum?
I am sorry I did not mean to offend you. I was confused with your post. You said you were in the allied heath program, but had not begun the nursing process, So I was asking if you were a cna.Because the name you had threw me off and your post said a CNA. every state is different and that is one of the reasons I like this site because we learn new stuff everyday. So I thought maybe the allied health would have been and equivalent to lvn/lpn (d/t your name)or something. I was just trying to get clarification.... The hospital I worked at would only let RN's Lvn's and doctors perform in a code due to the fear of getting sued if something went wrong), I thought that was the same everywhere. That is why I thanked janfrn for the post, I learned that that is not the case everywhere.
ONCE AGAIN I APOLOGIZE IF I OFFENDED YOU........ I did not mean to.
Hello, I am working as a PCA in ICU at a local hospital. I graduate with my ADN in May. I have just accepted a RN position in the same unit I work in now. I have worked there for a year and love my job. I am extremely nervous about taking on the RN role. Any advice for my transition from PCA to RN would be greatly appreciated.

Congradulation..... You will do wonderful in your new role on the unit. You have a plus because you know the people you work with and how things run on the unit already. GO GET EM......
Are you a nurse? or a CNA's? I do not think in any state the CNA's routinely perform cpr......Welcome to allnurses. And welcome to the healthcare field
Yes a CNA can perform chest compressions a CNA can manipulate an ambu bag, that is, if they are properly trained; that is why they are trained q. 2 years to renew their cards.
A CNA cannot administer cardiac drugs, but can put electrodes or pads on the patient, as long as a licenced person recognizes proper placement of...
So is appropriate yes a CNA can participate in a code, just as long as they can function in an emergency. Hey, their are many nuses that shy away from codes.

Thank you for the additional information........It is always good to learn new things......I was going on the experience I had. I now know that CNA's are able to assist in a code.
Hi, I am Erin, I graduated in Aug of 07 and have worked at a local mental health facility since then. Did a short stint at a LTC facility in between too. Looking around for another job. Want to work in more of physical illness, than mental illness for a change. Almost forgot, I am an LPN working towards my RN.
Hello everyone. My name is Sherry and I was an LVN for 13 1/2 years and graduated from the LVN to RN transition program last May, passed my boards the first week of June of 2007 and have tried ICU (hated it), Psych Hospital (hated it) and ended up in Home Health where I have been working since October of 2007. I was just made Branch Manager of one of our offices and I am kind of scared of the responsibility that goes with it but am willing to give it a try. Everyone is great to work with and the pay is good. I am currently working toward my BSN. I am 2 prerequisites away but they are really hard ones. Chemistry kicks my butt and I hate writing with is what English 2 is. I was also diagnosed with ITP and have to watch that. I think it is stress related. I just need to learn to chill. My dream job is working with women or children but am not ready to work in a hospital just yet. Home health has such freedom with your schedule.

We don't discriminate here. Or at least we shouldn't. The site is primarily for nurses, but we have lots of guests and members who aren't nurses, but might be planning to be. Or they have specific interests and are looking for answers or someone to chat with. It's all good. Welcome to allnurses, NurseXtina. If you aren't a nurse, though, you'll have to change your screen name. Our terms of service say the following:
Using Professional Titles:
Members cannot call themselves by professional titles, if they do not hold that title. ie. Members cannot call themselves "doctor, Dr., RN, LPN, LVN, Nurse,CNA, RT, MA" etc, unless they are actually licensed and/or certified as such a thing. If you have chosen a user ID name that reflects an unearned professional title, please contact administration, Admin Help Desk, and submit three (3) names for consideration. An administrator will get back with you regarding your name.
