hi everyone! i'm holli. i took boards on june 13th and passed with 75 questions. i am starting work on july 18th at the only hospital i ever wanted to work for. it is a great pediatric facility! i will be on the (post-op) surgical floor, and we also have all of the endocrine kids. also, they just added an epilepsy monitoring unit, for overnight monitoring and for the brain mapping they are doing. i expressed an interest in that, so they will cross-train me in that unit as well. i can't wait to get started!
so, tell me about you...

Hi,
This website is a great resource! Just an intro., I am in an evening ADN progam I am in 2nd semester and love it. We start clinicals next weekend. I am very excited. Apart from school I am a SAHM of 3. I love the evening program, with being a SAHM, it is the only way for me to finish my degree. Good luck to all. I look forward to getting lots of info from this website as I move along the program
Welcome, mlc29. You might not want to read too many of the posts on this forum... it'll scare you off before you've even got your feet wet! On the other hand, maybe it's a good idea to know what you're getting into... depends on your perspective, I guess. Since you're a student, you might find a lot of information and support specific to your current needs in the Nursing Student forum. There's a tab at the top of the screen that says "Students"; click on it and you'll find all the student forums. Just realize that there will be differences in curriculum and approach between schools and parts of the world; at the same time there are a lot of commonalities. And you can check out the Canadian Nurses forum through the "Region" tab, to "International" to "Canadian Nurses". Happy hunting.
I am 32 years old and almost through my first year of being a new Nurse. It has been hard at times and very educational, at times I have questioned if I made the right choice and others I would not give it up for anything in the world. My speciality is mainly in Cardiac and ICU. I still have to say everyday I have that moment where I feel I don't know what I am doing and I have found that this is a good thing because I learn something new everyday.:wink2::heartbeat

Secondment usually refers to a temporary assignment to another area. As in floating. Some secondments might be for a fixed period of time, say several months where you'd remain employed by Unit A but you'd be working on Unit B. Special projects are often considered secondments. You retain your position in your regular place of employment but you go work on a project (such as designing a new ICU) and when that's done you go back to your original job.
