hi everyone! i'm holli. i took boards on june 13th and passed with 75 questions. i am starting work on july 18th at the only hospital i ever wanted to work for. it is a great pediatric facility! i will be on the (post-op) surgical floor, and we also have all of the endocrine kids. also, they just added an epilepsy monitoring unit, for overnight monitoring and for the brain mapping they are doing. i expressed an interest in that, so they will cross-train me in that unit as well. i can't wait to get started!

so, tell me about you...

Hi Ophirose. I also graduated in Dec. 05, and will be working on a telemetry unit. Since I studied in PR I have not yet schduled my nclex due to late transcripts, and I just recieved my ATT yesterday 2/15/06 . I will be studing thru April then I will test. To many things going on @ once. I just relocated to Florida and settled my 8 yr old in school and he has Fcats coming up.

How was your test? :nurse: I am sure you passed, no worries

Hi, my name is Chelsie. I am a nursing student in the LPN program. I was a project analyst for many years and decided I wanted to help people in a different manner, my mom is a nurse...she loves her work...so far the program is awesome and so are the people.

Hi, I'm Wendy, and I've been a frequent poster in the Student Forums, but I'm no longer a student nurse, no longer a graduate nurse, I'm a brand, new, baby RN! I found out I passed my board yesterday, and have been floating on a cloud ever since. In two days I start orientation in a trauma step-down unit. To make it even better I have two girl-friends from school starting orientation with me. I'd love to hear any advice you have for me, or big things you've learned the hard way. Thank you!

Hello,

My name is Becky and as of 2/16, I am now an RN!!! Start my job on Tuesday--general med surg floor. Nervous and excited all at once. Look forward to chatting with my fellow new nurses.

hi, i am a senior nursing student graduating in may. my question is for everyone who passed the nclex, what did you do to study and for how long? also, i was wondering how long i should wait after graduation to take my boards?

thanks!!!

IMHO, there is no way to "study" per se. I think you can help yourself pass with some basic reading, rest and not adding to the stress that will already be present. Have faith in yourself. This is a test of "Did you learn how to think like a nurse"? Not factoids.

I chose not to do Kaplan, and to take my test as soon as I could (Jan 3rd) after the holiday. For me taking the Kaplan course would have added more anxiety...... I rested from Dec 15th(graduation), til Jan 1st then I read(NOT STUDY) basic lab values and norms..

But we are all wired different, so what has worked for you in the past......Should work for you again................

Good Luck

Tate

thanks, right now i am doing 50 questions a day ( i gaduate in may). also, i am participating in a nclex review course at school. we have been told not to cram and just study (review over a priode of time). i have also heard everyone should study because their is no possible way they can teach you everything in school. i do like doing the questions daily because i am able to brush up on things i can't remeber and on new things. i do plan on plenty of rest the week before i take my test:mad: lab values are great, i should really review those!!!:roll

thanks again :)

I'm Sarah, a May 2005 graduate, and RN as of July 30, 2005! I work in a Neonatal ICU, which I absolutely love. I am officially completely off orientation as of the first of the year, and though it's scary at times, I love my job!!

As far as boards go, I had wanted to take them as soon as possible after graduation...I ended up not receiving my ATT until about 3 weeks after graduation, and when I set up my test date, mid-July was the earliest available test date. I did about 100 questions a day, and when I came to an area I felt I was weak in, I read over the material in either my notes from school or an NCLEX book. I felt extremely prepared the weekend before my test, which was originally scheduled for a Tuesday morning...but the weekend before, found myself in the emergency room with appendicitis. So, the Monday night before my test, when I was supposed to be relaxing in a hotel room with my sister, I was actually under anesthesia in the OR! Needless to say, I had to reschedule the test. I had an extra 2 weeks to prepare, which stressed me out more than anything else, because I had actually felt prepared for my test on the original date. Anyway, I share this story not to scare you, but to say that postponing the test until later isn't necessarily the best thing. You may have more time to study, but if you are able to focus, I would recommend taking it sooner. This was the most stressful and important test I have taken yet, so anything you can do to avoid any extra stress is wonderful! (Obviously I didn't plan postponing the test, and things like that do happen...another reason not to wait -- if something does come up, you need the time left in your ATT to be able to reschedule!)

Enough rambling for now...congratulations to all new RNs out there...and good luck to those who will be an RN as soon as that pesky little test is over!!!

Good morning everyone!

Took the boards on Tuesday the 28th and just found out an hour ago I passed

I'm Adrienne. Four kids, Trinity (5), Mercia and Marie (4), and Paul (1 month). I'm starting off in med/surg but hoping to move on to pediatrics after some time and experience. Nice to meet all of you.

I graduated in December with my BSN, and start an OR internship next week. Any other new grads out there going to the OR?
