Let's introduce ourselves...

hi everyone! i'm holli. i took boards on june 13th and passed with 75 questions. i am starting work on july 18th at the only hospital i ever wanted to work for. it is a great pediatric facility! i will be on the (post-op) surgical floor, and we also have all of the endocrine kids. also, they just added an epilepsy monitoring unit, for overnight monitoring and for the brain mapping they are doing. i expressed an interest in that, so they will cross-train me in that unit as well. i can't wait to get started!

so, tell me about you...

Hello everyone...I took boards on June 28, 2005 and got notice of my license on July 6. Being a new RN is MUCH tougher than I thought it would be! I am an ASN RN working on my BSN. I came to this site as a class assignment...but I think it will be cool, so I'm glad I found it. Well, a little about me...I graduated May 5, started my internship May 23, took boards June 28, got married July 23, bought a house August 2, and started my BSN degree on Aug 28! Temporary insanity or what? Needless to say, I am a little overwhelmed. I guess I thought I was superwoman or something. Unfortunately, I have found my first few months of nursing to be a frustrating and disheartening experience. As with most nursing jobs, we are chronically understaffed with way too many patients to take care of properly. I am hoping I will like it better once I learn the job role better and have adjusted to my new life, school, and career. This has been a good experience in that I have learned what my limits are! :) I am looking forward to interacting with new nurses and gleaning knowledge from experienced nurses.

Lisa, RN

You know what you need Lisa.. you need to have a baby. That would round it all out. I don't think you have enough going on! :)

Hi everyone! I am Missy from Southern California. I just moved here and started orientation last week for a children's hospital. I graduated from an ADN program in March 2005. I started working on a cardiac step-down unit in Florida prior to moving...it wasn't my cup of tea. I was an LPN for ten years prior to doing a bridge program. I did pediatrics for six years before the bridge program. It is nice to see all the others just graduating and starting their career. Good luck to everyone!

Hello everyone, I'm a new nurse also, 10 months into it and already the experienced nurses are telling me I can't say I'm a new nurse anymore. I passed my boards March 24th 2005. I live in Indiana and work on a cardiac telemetry unit. I'm 24 with no kids and not married so right now my job is my life.

Hi all Im a new nurse my name is Dee and I live in Southern Cali currently looking for a job! (how fun!!!!!!)

Dont be nervous...you will be fine. The biggest thing any new nurse can do, and I had to learn this just this year, is make the patient laugh and the patient will be your best friend.

dont rush it...it will get there

What I found out a little too late is ...as a new nurse, your preceptor makes your job and your career for that matter. I had a terrible preceptoring experience....16 in 4 months due to personnel leaving, transferring to other floors or mismanagement. If you get one, you are doing good,

Hi! I'm Francine. I graduated in May of this year and have been working on a cardiac/telemetry floor. I really love it! I learn tons of new things all the time. I have always been told the first year is horrible. But I have had a great experience thus far. Occasionally, I have had horrible days but overall I haven't felt extremely overwhelmed. I also work with awesome nurses that have helped me learn what I needed to know.
