  1. Remember, you can find out the results of the NCLEX by going to the State board of Nursing website and check licensure verification. It is free this way and usually posted within 1-2 days. Good luck
  2. What I found out a little too late is ...as a new nurse, your preceptor makes your job and your career for that matter. I had a terrible preceptoring experience....16 in 4 months due to personnel leaving, transferring to other floors or mismanagement. If you get one, you are doing good,
  3. dont rush it...it will get there
  4. Dont be nervous...you will be fine. The biggest thing any new nurse can do, and I had to learn this just this year, is make the patient laugh and the patient will be your best friend.
  5. I am a new grad and have been a nurse for 8 months now. I love my work and to agree with some others, the job is what bites. There are always people among good people who tend to show themselves, oneupmanship in other words. I remember what my preceptor told me at the end of Nursing school...the difference between doctors and nurses is that doctors back each other where as nurses tend to eat their own.

First of all, welcome to allnurses.com. This is a great way to obtain information regarding nursing in the US. Secondly, nice name. Same as mine. I used to live in Paramatta just outside of Sydney back in 1991-1993. Miss it terribly. Again welcome. Kerry- CCU RN
  7. Is anyone else having difficulties with the chatroom programming. The area which shows what is being typed by each of us does not show after complete loading of the program. I have tried several computers where I work and they all do the same thing. I have also talked to the NIS personnel and they say that this is not filtered. Does anyone have a suggestion.
  8. I know how you feel about working holidays. Fortunately, the facility I work have a rotation that allows personnel to work one winter holiday (thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years) and then summer holidays, (Memorial, 4th of July and Labor day). Seems to work for all. Might want to suggest that to your department head. Try to have a happy one anyways.
  9. What is taught in Nursing school is the eutopia--- what everyone thinks nursing is or should be in the hospital setting. Once out of school and on the floor, realization sets in and one cannot help identify repeat offenders of the medical system. Unfortunately, we as health care providers, cannot test each patient, with more than say five visits to the emergency room per year, with a tox screen or other identifying tests to see actually if the patient is a user or an legitimate patient....all patients should be considered legitimate. We also must remember our bodies do show other signs/symptoms of pain...Increased heart rate, diaphoresis, elevated BP.
  10. This is a case of patient's crying wolf too many times only to actually have the wolf in the sheep's den
  11. I had the opportunity or in some cases, misfortune, to become a patient in London when I passed a kidney stone. I was offered an opium based pain medication which killed the pain most effectively. Morphine did not touch the pain what so ever.
