Let go from orientation

I'm a new grad RN and was let go 1 week before my orientation was up. I'm devastated as I have 2 small children to support. Luckily, they are giving me 2 weeks pay to look for a job. Should I use this job on my employment history when looking for a new job or not?? Anyone else been through this?? Any words of wisdom??

I wasn't a good fit- I wasn't catching on quick enough and needed better assessment skills. She said this is why she doesn't hire new grad RN's. I feel like if she knew this might happen( and obviously its happened in the past) she wasted both my time and hers!

I am glad they gave you two weeks pay~ my facility wouldn't. No, since you were simply on orientation, don't think I'd put that job on there, unless you were there for several months. If it was just a few weeks, I sure wouldn't put it on a resume/application.

No way do not list it. it sounds like this person does not like student nurses. Some nurses enjoy eating their young. We were all students at one time and all had a hard time catching on. It comes with time

I would leave it off. If someone asks about it later say I was there long enough to feel like it counted.

Wow I am sorry to hear that. I really do not know if you should leave it off or not. I do not know if that would look like omission and I saw other posts about getting in trouble for leaving off employments.

What unit was it? Do you feel like you still learned and gained something from it?

Aww, sorry OP! That was nice they gave you 2 weeks of pay. I'm not sure many places do that anymore, but still really doesn't soften the blow. What unit was it? Certain units just aren't good for new nurses, especially things like a high acuity cath lab, home care, etc. And, then, sometimes, certain units aren't 'new nurse' friendly. I know it's hard not to take it personally, but this doesn't make you a "bad" nurse; you're just new. We all were brand new at one point.

I hope you are able to find something soon! Be sure to ask about how many new nurses are on the unit, and what kind of orientation you will get at your new job. As far as assessment skills, what did they mean specifically? (No need to tell us; just be sure to ask them if you don't know so that you can improve for next time).

I wouldn't leave it off....it they check you credit/background and they turn up and you said you had no experience it looks like you lied and falsified the application.

What the heck is wrong with places today??? I don't understand what the Hades is going on???

I would leave it off, try and find something else. Usually the first job is the. Hardest. It is not like nursing school. Good luck and do not give up!

Aw, gosh I am so sorry. L&D is a busy department and it sucks she basically used you as a way to disregard new grads and solidify her opinions about them. She was mean to even say that comment. But as the guide said please do not omit it. When you get your next interview use the positives of the position, speak of all the things you learned, and how you would use those things to continue your nursing career. It must be very disappointing but do not give up. You will get something good. :up::cat:
