I am interested in the legal nurse consultant field, I am wondering if there are any specific recommendations for training in this field. I have looked over many programs and am pretty sure I want to take the Milazzo VIP program. I can't find any program that seems to compare. Any thoughts?

:balloons: hello and welcome to allnurses.com and the legal nursing forum:balloons:
we are so glad you joined us, stradivariusrn. (by the way, love the id name).
i suggest the rn have at least five (5) years of clinical experience before going into this type of career. if you have an eye for detail, are a paper-person, love the computer, love nursing/medical law, have the astute ability to critique the medical record and recognize the adherences to and deviations from the standards of care, you are well on your way to having a career as an lnc.

Thank you, I have made my decision to take the VIP coorifice from the Milazzo Institute along with the 2 day apprenticeship. I will be going to Houston in June, very anxious but excited to take on a new challange. Do you do this job full time? I hope to be able to do this full time in the future.
I will keep you posted

Congratulations, stradivariusrn. Let me know if I can help you prior to the course. Have questions? Post here. Afterwards, too. You will have many questions.
Yes, I do this (almost) full time now. Getting ready for an onslaught of cases as we speak.
Good luck.

Stradivariusrn,
I too am looking at the LNC. I'm trying to find out as much as possible before I sign up, have already requested those dates off from work. I'm looking at the June class in Houston with Vicki Milazzo.
Hi Orkney,
Believe me, I researched many different coorifices before commiting to the Milazzo program because lets face it, hers is the most expensive. However when I looked at what other coorifices provided, I felt that hers was the most comprehensive at showing you not only what you need to learn the job, but most importantly the marketing aspect. That makes me more anxious than the coorifice itself. I have already received the coorifice materials and that is overwhelming too. I plan to start reviewing the DVD's this weekend. Let me know what you finally decide, we can certainly hook up in Houston if you go.:wink2:

Hi Stradivariusrn,
I know what you mean the marketing side does seem a bit overwhelming. I'm reading all the posts about LNC, and trying to learn all I can to help my decision. Two other nurses where I work are signed up for the June seminar in Houston as well. I just need to make sure this is something I would really be interested in and feel comfortable doing it. I know there will be a learning curve.

so good that you are considering lnc. as stradivariusrn said, there are other avenues of education for the rn seeking to be lnc. the milazzo program is excellent by far.
if you have any other questions, please feel free to pm me and/or post here.
enjoy the site.

I too have been researching LNC. Have not gotten as far as to sign up for a course as yet. I don't think I have the clinical background to proceed. Hospital med/surg and registry for 3+ years. Since then I have been specializing in chronic pain management/ambulatory. Mostly office based with some recovery room for pain procedures only. What do you think?
Hello again, flowersRN
I sent you a pm.

Siri - I too have a question. Does education play a part in being an LNC? I just finished a post-masters CNS but jobs are pitiful at best in my area. Would an advanced degree be helpful?
