Legacy Health Residency, Portland, OR

Published

Just wondering if anyone else had applied to Legacy Health (Emmanuel Children's Hospital)? This is in Portland, OR. It closed last Friday and I am wanting to know when people start hearing from them about interviews. Thanks for any info you have!!

Hey OR ROCKS, just got an offer from OHSU- really excited. Good Luck everyone and hope you get in!! These last 5 months were hard, but don't give up it will happen for you too.

Congrats, thats awesome. I'm glad OHSU is starting to hire again. hope you got the dept you wanted. good luck to you, and you are right, persistence pays off... everyone who puts out the effort will eventually be rewarded with a position and we will all end up where we belong. :yeah:

What position did you get at OHSU? Congrats! It must feel amazing! Were you an internal applicant? The HR recruiter told me the other day that they are only hiring internally right now so I got discouraged. But, maybe that's not true?

Thank you, really excited, (Intermediate Care-Medicine). I knew someone working there, but don't be discouraged. If you know anyone there (CNA etc.. ask them to introduce you to the manager). Continue to apply after the 7 days of (internal application), something will happen. Will keep my eyes & ears open and let you know if anything comes up. Good luck!!

in my experience, ignore anything HR tells you. i'm sure they are nice people, but they will do nothing but frustrate you.

instead, check the website daily, apply for anything that comes along, and in the meantime, volunteer at the facility(s) that interest you, or try to get any type of position in the facility...I didn't know how many extra people worked in my dept (non-RN), and if I had, I would have tried to get one of those jobs during school...

Basically any way you can, get to know people, ask around, tell them you are looking and available, make it obvious, be obnoxious...and if you can get in to see a manager, be ready to interview on the spot...at the very least, get a resume into their mailbox, ask a secretary to send it via interoffice mail. thats how people are getting jobs. going through HR is useless. they have stacks and stacks of resumes, and the manager is the one who will hire you, not them.

good luck.

FYI: OK, so today we were told that for the next cohort they are only going to interview the candidates with at least a 3.5 GPA. Also, from now on, Legacy will only hire people through this residency or with one year of acute care experience, and no, long term care doesn't count. This is also the last time ADNs are going to be able to apply for the residency, they are moving to BSN only.

Wow that is a huge blow.... Legacy employs about 30 percent of hospital nurses in the area. Most of the programs are ADN.. Legacy just threw most of the new graduates under the bus.. Unfortunately Legacy is not the only hospital system using this time to hire only BSN graduates.

Hey everyone! I am sending in my application in the morning for the January cohort, as I'm from out of state. Who else is applying? I wish everyone the best of luck!

I am applying. Just dropped mine off in the mail yesterday. Now I guess we get to play the waiting game! Crossingfingers, what area of nursing are you hoping to get into?

Hey Christy! Yes, the looong waiting game :) I applied for postpartum at Legacy Meridian Park. I did my preceptorship in postpartum at the end of nursing school, so I hope that helps with my application. What about you?

yep, its a wait for sure. so while you're waiting, take ACLS, PALS, IV Therapy, any other advanced training or certification you can get. It will help to make you stand out and give you a better chance of getting a second interview. Best of luck!!

Taking my ACLS this weekend :) Hopefully it's not too difficult! I'm a little nervous about it. Have you taken it yet, ORRocksRN?

Where are you taking it that offers it on the weekend? I'm assuming you're in the pacific northwest. The only place I know of is NWRTC and they only do it on Mondays & Tuesdays...

I just dropped my app off this week too. I wonder how many applications they have with the new GPA restrictions.
