Leaving nursing, going into child care!

We have alot of friends who work overnight or outside the 5 day a week 8-5 job. They consist of all types of professions, police officer and of course many in the medical field. When I graduate me and my hubby will have a heck of a time trying to figure daycare between our schedules. (I know I will not be working M-F, 8-5. Nor do I want to)

We live in a big city with many 24hr businesses too. Hope others will do the same in our area.

I was at one time checking into doing "sick child care" of which would be available to those like us working wacky shifts. I know for myself I worked a facility that had an occasion policy and made it very difficult to stay home with my child when they were sick as we couldnt call off or even find someone to replace us. As a single parent that was hell when I couldnt be off for my child. I have a friend who does this in another state and loves it! She makes great money and is able to use her RN status to run her business.

You know, that sure is an interesting spin on using your nursing skills AND doing childcare! I don't have any kids myself, but several friends do and are always telling me about how they don't know what do to with their sick kids when they need to go to work. And hey, you wouldn't be taking care of the same kids day-in & day-out, they likely wouldn't have the energy to be running around like crazy, and you'd probably get paid more to watch 'em!

I like the idea!

what is a good way to make contact with the nurses who need this kind of service?

My local hospital had a weekly newsletter/bulletin that was given out to nurses....advertise in there, or see if you write an article for it. Is there a weekly staff email?

Ask if you could advertise in the elevators (only 2-3 posters needed) at the hospital. Word of mouth would surely take over from there.

Scrub/Uniform supply shop, they might let you put a poster up.

Local nurses association/group? They might be interested in bringing it up in a meeting or newsletter

Thanks for the replies and support. I am definitely going to advertise to all professions! I will have a toddler and preschool curriculum that emphasizes skills necessary for success in kindergarten and later years and will also teach American Sign Language and basic Spanish. The key to my success (I think) will be that I will utilize 24 hour video surveillance with password protected, secure server online access for parents to view the fun! I'm excited! This has been one of my dreams and ever since I've been mentioning it to people I've been getting a lot of encouragement. When I said I was a nurse I had two people try to get on my wait list already, and I won't be opened for at least another 3 months! LOL.
