Least busy nursing job??

Published

In your opinion, what would be less busier nursing job??? I work in a office and it is extremely busy and I come home stressed out. I was thinking maybe a different office setting or specialty area might be less busy. I do not mind a steady pace however in this job I just feel like I am always rushed and worried. Any ideas? I currently work in a peds office.

Private duty night shift. In my eight hours with my vent-dependent toddler, I do about 23 minutes of actual 'work' (this 23 minutes includes charting most nights)[/quote']

How do u find this type of job??

I agree. if you dont like being busy, then nursing is not for you. I am in Public Health and while I consider myself busy , I am not flat out all day. some days Im in clinic, some days Im at the computer. its a nice variety and there are a variety of designations to focus on as well.

I work nights in a group home. I have a lot of down time.

The hamster wheel goes pretty fast everywhere. If you want to work really, really slow, get a job in transport or environmental services at my hospital.

You want to take care of severely sick children because you think it is easy?!?

I said less busy not easy. I know being a nurse is not easy...

I have YET to find a nursing job that was "less busy"; or less "time consuming" some down time, but never a job that was busy; home health can be very busy, working at a PICU and as a Charge Nurse in LTC (where I am currently working) have been the same busy and stress (interesting-I know!) to me; worked at a extended pediatric care facility and had to teach AND nurse; Step-down busy, Rehab hospital busy and time specific at times; still busy once mastering time management...Having positions where you MUST anticipate the unexpected can be very busy.

Working at a pediatric orthopedic surgeon's office was SUPER busy-taking off casts, putting them on, crutch teaching, wrapping sprains, air casts, juggling two surgeons on a post OP clinic were the most busiest days.

I did chart reviews for Medicare-that was still time consuming and busy...in top of other reasons, I would NOT return to that job!

To Add: I remember a least busy job: flu shot clinics in retail pharmacy; although when the rush was on, it could be pretty busy. I thought of one day where I did two shots.

caring for a critically ill child vented in their home can be very busy for you are the only one there if something happens. I have cared for children at home on vents and it isn't easy by any stretch.

If an office job is too stressful I dont know where else would be less....

OP, you might have to rethink how to approach "busy" in this business...

Overall, do you enjoy your job? What aspects are challenging you and could be done better?

Also, do your colleagues feel the same way?? If they do, see if you all can come together in terms of how to help each other out; create a buddy system, all hands on deck approach if possible.

Find out if there could be a more efficient way to handle the world load so you won't feel as though you are drowning.
