Least busy nursing job??

Published

In your opinion, what would be less busier nursing job??? I work in a office and it is extremely busy and I come home stressed out. I was thinking maybe a different office setting or specialty area might be less busy. I do not mind a steady pace however in this job I just feel like I am always rushed and worried. Any ideas? I currently work in a peds office.

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

My home care job is USUALLY slow. Toddler vent patient who sleeps at night.

However, when you are the night shift home care nurse, you are IT - you are the nurse, the pharmacist, the RT and the equipment troubleshooter/ repair person. My home care kiddo has- on one of my 'slow' shifts - decannulated himself THREE times, pulled out his Mic-key button, run out of oxygen, puked and lots more. I have dealt with suddenly 'dead' vents, cardiac kids who want to shunt and sat in the 50s. Oh, and did I mention that this particular job was located over 25 miles from the nearest hospital (a 25 bed critical access hospital at that)- and if I called 9-1-1 I would get, in about 15 minutes, a volunteer fire crew, not a paramedic.

(God bless volunteer firefighters, but they could only provide my patient with a ride, not any type of tangible help, given her needs)

So TYPICALLY home care is a slower pace, but it has its moments of abject terror.

How does one find these jobs? One gets experienced with children and home technology, then one googles 'pediatric home care agency'.
