Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?

It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.

Hahaha! Love these! :)

1. Induction= Inducement ( or Seducement as I had one soon-to-be-grandmother say OR "take the baby"......where are you taking it?)

2. Toxemia= Noxema ( pre-eclampsia/eclampsia please)

3. Meconium= Mecnim

4. Contractions= Contraptions

5.lady parts= "my **** down there" as I had a mother of 3 elequently tell me once

:chuckle

Now that last one is just darn funny. I'd be like..."what you stepped in poo?"

But I am a difficult cuss.

Have you heard people pronounce ask or asked as AX or AXED? ( as in: I axed him a question.)

How about....

acrosst instead of across

Quite a common one in my little midwestern town, so I may have to excuse it as dialect. Still, it is a bit like nails on a chalk board.

Here it's "aks" (as in arc-s) and I hate it!

I am guilty of saying a lot of things incorrectly. For the life of me I have the hardest time saying Wellbutrin and it is the brand name!!

wow ,

If you feel things are said incorrectly maybe you could offer a co-worker some help in that department we all make mistakes some bigger then others . But through team work we can become better. I know for myself there are some words i have misprounced because my instructor in school misprounced it. And I was glad when my fellow students corrected me . I would rather make a mistake in front of a co-worker on the same team , then make a jerk of myself in front of a family member or doctor. Ths is not intended to disrespect what your saying , I'm just saying maybe you could offer your help.:trc:

I hate the "affect" v "effect". When someone writes "morphine given with good affect", for example. Eugh!!

This is a kind and thoughtful sentiment, but not everyone is as open as you are. We live in a world where people are primed to take offense--not just ready, but eager, to assume you are disrespecting them if you say they are anything other than perfect. And some of them, fragile things that they are, have no qualms about launching what they see as a counter-attack, no questions asked.

There are a few people whom I trust to know my intentions that I would offer a gentle correction, knowing that they would do the same for me.

In the workplace, I would probably only step in if someone were about to make a boo-boo in front of a patient, and then I would take them to the side and be as delicate as possible.

Having a thread like this one is wonderful for two reasons. It allows frustrated people like me a chance to vent among kindred spirits. And it lets us actually have a discussion about errors, real or imagined, and clarify regional usage and other aspects of language.

As a closing thought before I head out the door to work, let me just say that I really, really, REALLY dislike text-speak. I just h8 it!! :D

I dislike almost all of it except OMG & LOL. That is my limit. Actually, I am partly afraid that I will start using in when I don't mean to.

Its exacerbation NOT exasperation. That makes me crazy . Mrs.Smith dosen't have a exasperation of her asthma she has a exacerbation of her asthma.

just poking fun..............aN exacerbation..............LOL. Sorry. I have worked 15 days straight and needed a laugh. This thread is doin it!

Well......... having an exacerbation would CAUSE exasperation ....... ;)
