Lawson State fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone I would like to congratulate everyone who made it into this falls (2016) cohort. I will be applying to Lawsons fall 2017 cohort. I am creating this forum for those who are currently in the program that would like to encourage the next class and also let us know what to expect and for those applying to the 2017 cohort. Lets also post scores as we complete classes and take the ACT. So far I have taken bio 103, micro, eng, a&p 1, psych 1& 2, humanity, and will be taking a&p 2 and math 100 this miniterm and will be taking hps 103 and mth 186 in January. Oh and also remember no question is a dumb question unless you dont ask it!!!

I was thinking about applying to Wallace State, but I don't know if I want to drive that far. How did the graduates that attended Lawson's night program say they manage studying?

Basically read everyday and live and breathe nursing meaning if you got out to eat have your book if you are at a gathering have your book if you're at work have your book basically any down time needs to be dedicated to studying and practice nclex style questions pertaining to what you're studying as well

LMBO!!! I can believe it! I was at the hair salon and one of the ladies in there was in Jeff State's RN program. Every time she came in there she had her nursing Fundamentals book with her and she told me the same thing. She said when she goes to the restroom ...she takes her book LOL!!

Which I think it will become more natural to us once we are in the program getting acclimated with nursing.. but i will always have my book with me... 2 nurses told me they recorded the lecture and played them while they were sleep.

I think I will record my lectures too. I am trying to figure out the best way to break down the chapters , by them assigning so many at one time. One lady told me that she reads the first 5 pages 5 times before reading the next 5 pages. How do you plan on reading your chapter?

I like to read straight through a chapter then go back through and make notes.... I had a coworker tell me when he was in nursing school he read like the first 5 sentences in a paragraph. Someone told him the most important information will be in the first 5-7 sentences in a paragraph. Don't know how true it is but I am definitely going to Google it!!!

Are you planning on applying to jeff state as well?

Yes, I am in the process of applying for admission to the college now. I have to take my ID and get two more transcripts sent over to them.

Ok good im doing the same.

I'm super excited to get this show on the go. It feels like I have been on this journey forever lol. I find myself constantly researching stuff about becoming a nurse. I think doing this keeps me motivated :)

I can totally relate to how you feel I'm just as excited and I've been researching things nurse related for months. It motivates me too to know that there is an end to this journey. I remember back when I had too many classes to count now I'm almost done...

Do you know where you want to apply after you graduate or would you just be happy that anyone hired you being a new grad?

Same here. I haven't taken the ACT since high school as well. I hope I do well too. I have heard good things about Lawson nursing program as well. I did read that on Lawson's website about the ACT. Do you know how Lawson night program schedule goes? days, hours, clinical etc? I had two classmates to be accepted into the program , one for LPN and one for nursing, but I cannot get in touch with either of one of them. They told me that they would keep me updated but I only heard from one and that was at the beginning of the semester. She won't respond to my text messages . Maybe she lost her phone or something. I hope they are doing okay.

This is what her response was about the clinicals that I asked about awhile back. Found it in an old post I we were talking in. She still hasn't responded yet about the class schedule.

Clinicals is twice a week. I think first semester its just one day a week. I like it ....the I haven't had an issue with the instructors
