I'm scheduled for an LAVH on 5/13. Can any of you Gyn gals give me a heads up on what to expect. I can give great care to others, but turn into a huge baby when its' me! My LAVH is due to fibroids, adenomyosis, etc, etc...

I had a LAVH BSO and cysto 4 years ago...Best thing I ever had. My biggest post op problem was bladder spasms. Then I had to get my hormone dose regulated. finally MD put me on the patch for hormones...once again I can say I am happy about the results. since I work in the OR, I hand picked the people who were in my room. needless to say they also played some pranks on me. when I woke from anesthesia. I had 9 yes, 9 rub-on tatoos on me... I took only 4 weeks off from work. If you have more than that PLEASE take at least 6 weeks. I felt great but working all day can wear you out!!!!
take care and good luck

It may be a prank but similar pranks have backfired on the perpetrators. While such pranks are played only amongst "friends" (fellow workers), there has been more than one such case where the hospital and nurses involved have been sued by the patient for body markings, drawings, etc. applied by hospital personnel after surgery. Many people don't take kindly to being treated this way, even by their friends. All such cases have been won by the patient. Anyone should think three times before pulling a similar prank.

I had an LAVH in June of last year for endometriosis......... I had 4 tiny incisions, all of which you cant see anymore.......The thing to remember about an LAVH vs TAH is that with an LAVH you have a tendency to feel like you can do alot more than you actually can. You still have the same stitches on the inside, just not on the outside so you fool yourself..............The best information I can give you is to go to http://www.hystersisters.com It is a site that was started for women to help each other through the surgery and everything before after and in between. Good luck in your surgery and recovery!

Mark . . . . regarding gas. You are so right. Simethicone, Simethicone, Simethicone.
Had a cesarean and the gas pains were the worst part of recovery . . . . anti-gas meds worked better than pain meds for me.
