You may have a latex allergy. I'd find out for sure -- they can be life threatening!

Are you sure its the latex in the condom? It could be lack of lubrication or possible spermicide that coats the condom.

I would see about getting tested for an allergy to latex ASAP. In the meantime, I would see if you can get a latex free one. They also make cloth sleeves to cover the latex tubing so you can avoid contact. Better to be safe than sorry. Allergic reactions to latex tend to become more severe with subsequent exposures.

This is a little off the subject, but I truly do feel your pain about the condoms. When we used them when we dated, I had a similar reaction. I eventually found that what was irritating me was the spermicide, not the actual condom. They are finding out that spermicide is very irritating and causes tears in the lady partsl lining and subsequently increases your risk for infection.

Hope this helps and that you have a wonderful, dry, non-flooded night!

You can and should be tested for a latex allergy. I think the two tests are skin tests (where they inject a solution of latex in your skin and watch to see if it swells or not) and the other method of testing is a good old fashioned blood test for antibodies. I hope you don't have a latex allergy because they don't sound fun... Best of luck

Latex allergies usually take a while to develop. It took me three years. If you have a latex allergy, your ankles will be blotchy and itchie from the elastic on your socks. Also, your mouth may get itchie and iritated after eating tomato products, like salsa. It's really not that bad (exept for swimsuits). The hospital should have most items available in latex free materials.]

Thank you all, i first thought when me and hubby was first dating that it was the spermicide, so i switch to no spermicide and it is still the same thing even if i use lubricated or non lubricated. As far as salsa and stuff like that that always eat up my mouth i thought it was the acid, because pineapple eats up my mouth too.

See your doctor or an allergy specialist to be tested so you know for sure.

As far as equipment goes- all hospitals have some latex free option as far a gloves go- some have gone so far as to completely remove all latex gloves and other items. As far as stethoscopes go if you stick with a high quality brand ie: Littmann's they are latex free.

if you do have a latex allergy, i have heard even the powder in others latex gloves can be a potential problem for you. you know-- cause it can be inhaled. if you end up paying for a titre test out of pocket, where they inject the stuff under the skin and look for a reaction, please tell us how much it costs-- i am curious. not very often but from time to time, we get cnas who put vinyl gloves in rooms because they say they are "allergic" -- this makes me psychotic because of the lack of adequate barrier protection-- vinyl is more fragile than either latex or nitrile--so ive been thinking of making a big stink at work but it'd help if i knew we could just make the allergic people prove it with a titre test. before investing in nitrile, which costs big bucks (sometimes twice as much).............we have a hospital here that uses nitrile gloves only (kingman regional medical center in arizona). i like it cause is so progressive.

yeah i have been looking at the littman, but they are expensive at least to me they are. I think i may make an appointment to see an allergy specialist. I

have been doing some research about the allergie and it say some 25% of people with hay fever tend to have it. I know i had once got tested for a skin allergy because i would break out all over with hives and would scratch and scratch until bled but after about a year or better yet after i moved out the dorm it cleared up :uhoh3: any way doc did some scratch test and put me on clartin to take everyday, but once it cleared up i stop taking it, but some days it comes back, and i just bath with oatmeal soap until i feel better

never could pin point why i was breakng out in hives though
