Published

Hey everyone, thanks for all your help on the book advice. I thought I would post this on its own. Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on a Laptop? What kind of laptop would you recommend? Also can anyone reccomend a Pda and also helpful software related to nursing?

Thanks a million, billion, trillion!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting. How do you prove the cup of coffee you spilled was spilled at home?

I have a sony vio laptop and love it. I also have a sony clie sj33 PDA, also love it! I do find the need for both. My laptap has a CD/DVD rewrite, which I use a lot. Didn't have a PDA for nsg school, they didn't have them back then! I do use it for work daily. Epocrates is a must! An ACLS program and an EKG rhythm program is useful. Visit PalmEMS.com for downloads.

gampopa I just found this on MSN (BTW, I sent you a PM)

Computer equipment

If you have a personal computer or two, your homeowners insurance may pay you enough to buy a new one -- or it may not. If you're running a home business, however, your homeowners insurance almost certainly will fall short.

Here's another area where it pays to read your policy. Some insurers will give you a check only for what your computer equipment is worth now, which is probably a fraction of what you paid for it. Even those that do pay for replacements typically have a cap, often about $2,500. Many require you to have supplemental coverage if you want a bigger check than that, or if you run a business from your home.

Read your policy, note the limits and talk to your insurer about supplemental coverage if you need more.

I wouldn't say it's a waste of money. If you were to write a paper on a PDA, how would you print it? .

Easy, theres a cradle that attaches to your pc and download it to microsoft word, bada bing badda boom its printed.

Id also like to add, if your on a budget as i am a pda might be the way to go. Just my 2 cents

Printing with a PDA: Some of the new printers have an IR reciever and you can Beam files to them to print, or so I've been told.

Some homeowners policies will cover laptop's. Had a friend drop his off motorcyle at 60mph and had it replaced.

Never heard bad things about Dell laptops, love my Dell desktop and they gave me the credit to buy it so, they'll get my return buisness.

I see! I was under the impression you didn't have a computer all. My mistake :)

I'm starting the Nursing program this fall and I have a laptop which has helped me through my prerequisites! It's great to have to do papers or research if my family desktop is in use! But I must say my latest pride and joy is my Sony Clie that I just got!! I've already downloaded tons of nursing stuff on it and the possibilities are endless! It won't replace my laptop but it's a great resource tool....and of course it has games on it too!

i love sony products!!!! I have a sony clie sj30, i dont use it like i should becuase i have yet to get a keyboard, but i think i may not get the keyboard and just get the laptop, i want a sony vao but thats gonna take some saving. i dont think a laptop is neccessary though, if you have a pda and a desktop, youre fine. ok i'll stop mumbling:)

I use a laptop at school for note taking. My handwriting isn't the best when I try to write really fast (the teacher goes REALLY fast during lecture) I used to be in medical transcription. I find I can type faster than I think now adays. BUT!! There is only one thing I hate about laptops. The clickity-clackity keyboards that some laptops have. I have a step-brother built laptop. Its an Compaq on the outside, but who knows what on the inside. But it was free! It pays to have family in the computer business! Free upgrades too! But I made sure before he built it for me that it had a quiet keyboard. I can't stand to hear all that clicking duing notes. Its hard enough to pay attention when you are trying to type, read, listen, and chat with your friend that sits next to you! =0)

I actually had to move to the other side of the room because I coudn't sit behind the girl with the noisy laptop. It purred like a cat too!

As for the PDAs. Palm.com I got a refurbished one for half the price of new, and I've had NO problems with it. Just shop around! Good luck! =0)
