Lansing Community College

U.S.A. Michigan

Hi everyone! I'm just wondering if anyone is in or has graduated from the nursing program at Lansing Community College. I just completed and mailed my selective admissions app and will be taking a few classes in January. I'm wondering how you like(d) the program and how competitive it is to get in.

Hi Jen. I am a first-semester student currently at LCC. I'm really enjoying it at the moment (says Gen as she avoids studying for her test tomorrow). How far along are you with your pre-reqs? I found that getting in wasn't hard because I had all of my co-req classes done when I applied (like physiology, micro, etc). Most of the people in the program have all of those classes out of the way. Got any other questions? I'll try to answer them :)

YEAH! It's nice to hear from someone around here.

I have a Bachelors degree in Anthropology, with a minor in Biology from Western Michigan University, so I'm able to transfer a lot of classes. In January, I will take the writing class and healthy lifestyles class that are required to be completed before admission. (I only had technical writing in college, and that doesn't transfer.) I'll take the CPR class in April.

I've had anatomy and physiology classes already, so that's helpful. I figure I'll try to get in in May. If I don't get in, then there are plenty of classes I can take in the meantime.

Do a lot of people apply to their program?

Thanks a ton for the info!

Good to hear that a lot of your previous credits could transfer! I'm sure you know that LCC's admission works with a point system. The more points you have, the better your chances :) I'm not sure of the actual number of applicants to the program, but the schools recently started a part-time program so more people get a chance to get started. That increased the number of 1st semester students by 30ish.

Good luck!! And if you have any questions, let me know :)

I am an LCC grad. its a great school.

I am actually in the part-time program currently. Yes I am part of the "guniea pig" class. I am enjoying the program. I like the small classes and the interaction with the students. I also took all of my classes other then the required nursing classes that you have to be in the program to take. So for the majority of my time in the program, I will only be taking one class a semester (usually in the evenings). This way I am still able to work fulltime. good luck.

Hi Everyone. I'm not in school at the moment but will be enrolling at LCC for the fall to finish my pre-req's and hopefully apply for the nurisng program for fall of 2005. Tonia, could I ask you a few questions about the part time program? I have three small children so it would be much easier for me to do the program at night. How many hours a week (in general,) are you in class? Is there a certain amount of classes you are required to take each semester or can you just limit your classes to one or two per semester? Thanks for the info.

I am hoping to revive this old post and get some responses from current or recent grads from LCC. I am taking Healthy Lifestyles and Anatomy this semester since my anatomy class from my degree at MSU didn't have a lab component. I have met all of the other pre-reqs through transfer credits and will be waiting patiently for my acceptance/denial letter to come in July. :uhoh3: I was just wondering how many points you had when you were accepted into the program? An advisor told me that last year's applications averaged 67-68 points so I was hoping just to hear some first hand experiences.

Also how did you like the program overall?

Thanks!

I graduated from LCC in 1992. It was a great experience, and a great school.

To the previous posts : you were lucky/ happy campers at LCC.

The class that started before me at LCC graduated 50 % of the original enrollment. I am a student of 50 years old, myself and other 50 + students have the opinion that LCC wants to eliminate older students. The MBA who sat next to me felt she had been harrassed by one of the clinical instructors. I was harrassed by my clinical instructor in the first semester. This person would try to provoke me into arguements, and would make insulting remarks to me in rooms where there were no observers. I complained, it made the harrassment worse. By the end of the semester I was teary. I loved Maternity class, I thought my clinical instructor was the CATS MEOW! Acute Care, another misery. I had no problem with the class work. MY GPA was 3.5/4.0. Clinical....Had a new instructor. Couldn't do anything right for this one either. Hated my paperwork. I would ask for help, I would get "do your best" as advice. The paperwork would never be acceptable. Got put on probation. I had 3 tutors who could not figure out what the clinical instructor was looking for. We all would examine the remains of the documents. I was never written up for bad technique, bad behaviour, not doing the job. Got written up for mispellings, didn't like my nursing diagnosis. Last week of clinical I got called in to the department chairs office. I was told I failed the class and would "Never succeed at LCC."

All I can figure ( tutors and friends too) is that I was that semesters "Goat."

I am currently looking for another LPN program I can transfer credits to.

Wow I am sorry you had such a bad experience. I am surprised to hear that you think that LCC wants to eliminate older students. In all of their paperwork and presentations they seem to stress that LCC welcomes older, nontraditional students and even go on to say that they may not be the best fit for students right out of high school looking for that traditional college experience.

What semesters did you attend LCC?
