Lansing Community College, 2012 applicant role call!

Published

I know there are some other LCC people out here somewhere! Anyone applying for 2012 admission?

I just applied for 2 year, 3 year and 2nd Degree programs today. Cast a wide net and see what you catch theory there!

I am estimating my point totals for 2 year and 3 year at 68-69 and 2nd Degree at 58-59.

Good luck to everyone who has worked so hard to get this far! May we all keep our sanity while we wait on letters...

Hi there! I just got my letter telling me how many points I have. I applied to the 2 and 3 year program as well and I have 157 points. I cannot wait to find out if I got in.

I will be applying next year (2013). It's been 18 years since I graduated from college, so I'll more than likely have to re-take Anatomy, Physiology & Microbiology. Plus I have to take PSYC 205 & NURS 200 as pre-reqs to get the bonus points for entry.

I attended the pre-nursing advising seminar a few weeks ago and I've been adding up my estimated point total. As long as my GPA holds up (3.82 so far) and I finish all the pre-reqs, I'll have 126 points. I'm also considering getting my CNA & working while waiting to apply, so that will bump me up to 137 points.

In speaking with an advisor, I was told the cut-off for last year's admission was 81 points.

I've got an appointment on Friday to go over my course plan with the nursing advisor and see about getting an exception for the Microbiology and A&P. Can't wait to get started! I really want to get into LCC, since their program is so highly regarded in the area (not to mention the great tuition rate in-district)

Best of luck to you. Hope to see a post soon that says you got in! :D

I just received my letter stating I had 152 and I pray that gets me in. I had every point you could go after with the exception of patient care experience. I routed myself through volunteer work but had a 4-point in every class as it seems that is what you need to get in. I applied to both the 2 and 3 year program but hope for the 3 year starting this fall. I will also be applying to the accelerated program and made the alternative list last year so I don't forsee any issues if I go that route either. My concern with that program is the pace as I have 2 young boys and the need for some balance with my family. A few weeks back when meeting with an advisor, she seemed to think the cut off would be somewhere just under 150 but this is the new year with the new point program. Good luck all. K

Question: I'm looking at the points sheet and I'm trying to determine how you are all in the 150's?

10 points for residency

80 points for GPA

46 points for all pre/co reqs complete

= 136 points

Do you also have a lot of experience as a CNA or other medical job? Now I'm worried that I won't be able to get in without doing CNA or phlebotomy and have to wait another year to get in....yikes!!!!

I do have some volunteer hours I can submit, but my CNA experience was 20 years ago, so it doesn't count.

Best of luck to both of you...I'm sure you'll make it in!!! :D

Never mind, I found the answer to my own question! I was accidentally looking at the points for part-time work, instead of full-time.

Thinking about getting my Phlebotomy Technician certification to get some experience in the field and earn some more points!

I have heard good things about the phlebotomy courses....so good luck. I took the CHSE 110 and loved it. I don't have the patient care experience but maxed the volunteer hours. My kids are young so I opted to volunteer at their school vs. getting a part time job in the health field. I just pray my points get me in this year.

Has anyone heard what the applicant points are looking like? Wish they would determine the ones who make the cut before the 3rd week in April. Seems like a cut and dry process....I don't understand the long wait.

I just had a meeting with an advisor last week. She said they'll know what the cut off was by the last week of April. She told me to give her a call then, so I'll have an idea of how many points I'll need for the next application round in 2013. I'm hoping it'll be in the 130s, then I know I'll have enough points to get in on my GPA & pre-reqs alone.

Glad to know you've heard good things about those courses. I've been debating between CNA (CHSE 110) & Phlebotomy (CHSE 143 & 144). I was a CNA back in the 90s, so the thought of doing something new interests me highly. However, not sure if there's more of a job market for CNAs vs. phlebotomists. I'll have to do some research!

I think with 152 points, you should have no problem getting in! Fingers crossed!!!!

I am actually A CNA with part time points. I ended up with the 157 because I have volunteer work and an ok GPA. I am assuming that the new point system should allow for growth over the next few years, or else they would be re doing it every year. I also took the phlebotomy class last summer just to amuse myself and I loved it. I did not however do the externship. I just didnt see the point when I was already a CNA. I recommend taking a CNA course to everyone because actual patient care is soooo valuable. It will really help you jump right in when you are in the nursing program. Good luck to everyone.

I was a CNA back in the 90s and while my experience is too old to count for points, I'm glad I still have that hands-on knowledge!

I'm doing the phlebotomy & externship so I can work as well. I'll be able to use the points on the 2013 application and if, for some reason, I don't get accepted then, I'll just keep working and rack up some more points.

I figure I can also do volunteer phlebotomy work at the Red Cross to help get points as well.

I'm sure you'll be posting your acceptance soon...you've got a LOT of points! :D
