Langston University, Probation?

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

What have you guys heard about Langston? I heard that they are on probation because of their low NCLEX pass rate.

I don't know if this is true but I was considering applying until I found that out. I don't want to go to a school with bad reputation. I want a good education. Although, just looking at the past ten years at their NCLEX first time pass rate, it's lower than most nursing schools in oklahoma and it does make me really wonder about Langston. You can see all nursing programs NCLEX pass rate here: http://www.ok.gov/nursing/nclexpass1.pdf

Anyone know anything or have any of you recently gone there. What can you say about the program?

I was originally planning to go to OU until I found out how competitive they are. I hear it's fairly easy to get into the program, especially because I have a 3.5 and pre reqs will be done. What do you think? Because besides OU, Langston is one of the only BSN programs in the state that I am very closely on track for. A lot of the others have several random classes that I would have to take in order to get into the program.

Advice is much appreciated! It's been a stressful past few months trying to figure this all out and my time is running out!

Thank you,

Nicole

Hi

I start school spring 2012 I'm in the lvn-bsn I think it is the same class as the reg bsn just a few less classes. I'm not sure how had the program Is but I hope it is not so bad because I have to work part time.

Hello,

I went to Langston University and am a PROUD LANGSTON ALUMNI! I came in Aug 2005 and graduated with a BSN May 2009. The Langston University School of Nursing program is very challenging, yet rewarding! I chose to attend Langston because I was awarded a FULL RIDE 4 year SCHOLARSHIP. However, even if I had not been awarded a scholarship, the tuition is AFFORDABLE and the education is EXEMPLARY! (I have seen many nurses graduate and still are unable to buy a nice car because they have to pay back EXPENSIVE COLLEGE LOANS..i'm just saying).

The instructors push you to critically think, go above and beyond in clinicals and the curriculum is more challenging than the NCLEX. I passed my NCLEX the FIRST TIME with 75 questions, in one hour. I believe this is an EXCELLENT nursing school! Everywhere we went for clinicals the RNs we percepted with were GLAD & EXCITED to have LANGSTON NURSING STUDENTS because we truly got INVOLVED during clinicals (bathing patients, assessing patients, drawing blood, doing EKGs, inserting foleys, starting IVs, putting down NG tubes, answering doctors questions, knowing when there is a critical lab or assessment that they doctor needed to be notified about, and asking questions to learn) and not just hiding off in a corner with our head in books during clinicals.

Ultimating your choice of nursing schools is up to you. But I will definitely say, me being a Langston Univ Nursing School, allowed me to automatically be hired at OU Medical Center at the exact place I did clinicals because they enjoyed me as a nursing student. And having NO UNDERGRADUATE LOANS to pay back is a PLUS TOO!

Let me know if you want to know any more. I'll be glad to share my experience with you.

did u go part time. im full time and scared i wont make it. im starting jan 2012 moving from san diego to attend a good school that i can afford. did most of your class mates finish the program. and can i work part time and make it. thanks so much.

Yes, I went FULL-TIME. And I did not work AT ALL. It is very time consuming to work and go to nursing school. But if you go to school part time, I can imagine you can work. I came into the nursing program with 40 classmates, but only 27 of us completed the program. Some couldn't make the grades and others got removed from the program by breaking rules in clinicals (i.e., giving meds without a nurse present).

ARE YOU GOING TO THE TULSA CAMPUS or the MAIN (LANGSTON) CAMPUS? I will tell you that the two campuses are VERY DIFFERENT experiences. I went to the Main campus in Langston.

Omg I am so scared that I won't make it. I am going to the Tulsa camus have you Hurd any bad things about that campus and it's students I no I have to work part time a am doing the lpn-bsn so I test out of 3 classes. I want to make sure I'm making the right choice for me moving across country. The Tulsa bsn program is 2 years was yes the same. Hmmm and what advice can u give me. Thanks so much.

I have been admitted to Langston, Tulsa's BSN program and the staff has been nothing but helpful! They are easy to get a hold of and all have up beat attitudes. I dont have anything so far that isnt positive to say about the college. Im am super excited to start nursing school at Langston! :) I think people get too caught up in the big name colleges such as OU. At the end of the day we all have to pass the NCLEX.

hi when are you starting the program. i am start jan 2012 and are you full or part time?

thanks

I start Jan 2012 also and I'm full time. I was really hoping to start this August but I still have a class left to take and am getting my CNA lisence this summer. : )

yea I might have to go part time because I live im cali and cant get the gen chem done so im praying that i can crash the class here and be full time as well. Maybe we can be study buddies.
