Langara Fall 2017

World Canada CA Programs

Hi!

It's super early but I wanted to start a thread for those planning to apply to Langara for the Fall 2017 intake!

I am finishing one last prerequisite and will be applying as soon as applications open in November.

Who else is going to apply to this intake?!

I have been waitlisted with a GPA of 3.32 and received my email this morning. Does anyone know how many people they allow on the waitlist...is there a max number of students they keep on the waitlist? I wonder what the cutoff was for this semester so we can gage how close we were to making it!

Hope somehow I can make it in this semester if enough students drop :(

I think the GPA cutoff for this intake would be higher than last intake because someone never got waitlisted with a 3.33 GPA without a degree and initially got in from the first round of offers; while for Fall 2017, last known accepted applicant was with a 3.5 GPA without getting waitlisted. So yep good luck to us on the waitlist :D

I believe they put all applicants who meet the requirement of 2.33 GPA on the waitlist. After that there will be a second round of offers going out in the case where people who were initially offered a seat do not pay tuition. If you still don't get an offer after the second time they can keep you on the waitlist as long as first week of class starts. I know it's frustrating to play the waiting game not knowing your position on the waitlist :/.

Anyone know the deadline for the deposit and fees??

Does anyone know the process of being selected from the waitlist? I am assuming it will be based on GPA as well...I wish they did tell students their waitlist position. Does anyone know why they do not tell students this information?

I was told that once someone is on the waitlist they will take a number of things into consideration including, but not limited to: past education, work experience and age. For the first round their hands are tied by the department to choose the highest gpa's but for the waitlist they can use their discretion. This was told to me by an advisor who has chosen the nurses for the past five years. So it's anybody's guess who will get a spot, but we will most definitely see movement as I know for sure some people will choose BCIT and UBC when those offers come out in a few weeks. Good luck!!

Thanks for the reply! Just curious how do they take work experience into consideration if we only give them our transcripts from the school's we've attended?

Also for age, does that mean they might choose those who are older? I attended SFU for about 3.5 years and was about 1 year away from graduating with my bachelors in health science however I decided to go into nursing and did not finish my bachelor's as I did not want to take more student loans out for my bachelors if that was not the planned career choice and transferred to Douglas to try to get into their nursing however the waitlist is quite long and the last two upper div. biology courses required for Douglas to enter into the nursing course is hard to get into as they do not have many sections open per semester and each class is only about 25-30 students hence I am applying to Langara as it is more competitive and since I am 23 already, I thought my chances of getting into Langara would be better than having to wait about 2 years to get into Douglas.

I just want to get in and begin the path to pursuing my career!:nurse:

Has anyone who was waitlisted offered a spot in the program yet?

nothing yet! we will probably see some movement after other schools start making their acceptances

Ubc sends their offers out in may and I heard BCIT will be out end of April...
