Langara BSN Fall 2015

World Canada CA Programs

Hi everyone! Applications are now closed and acceptances should be sent out later this month. I'd love to hear from anyone who receives their acceptance as well as students currently in the program offering any advice, or anyone (im)patiently waiting like myself!

Hello! I have accepted my offer for sept 2015 as well, still waiting on acceptance to bcit though which is my first choice!

Hello! I have accepted my offer for sept 2015 as well, still waiting on acceptance to bcit though which is my first choice!

Congrats!! Would you mind sharing your gpa on the 5 prerequi? Thanks.

My Gpa for the pre-reqs was about 4.1 but my overall was below that.

Congratulations Penney! How does it work with waiting on hearing back from other schools? Langara doesn't give you a time limit or require that you pay a deposit or anything?

I had to accept the offer as they only give two weeks to do that but so far I haven't had to pay anything. I won't find out about bcit until May probably and I'm not confident I will get in as it's super competitive so I might just end up at langara.. I guess I'll just plan for langara until the time comes and see if I have to make that decision! It's not like they aren't both good schools!

Thanks for elaborating on your situation, Penney! It's too much to ask that the schools somehow coordinate the timing of their letters of acceptance, hey?! I'm sure all this waiting and juggling happens every intake!

Does anybody know how to calculate their GPA's? I would like to calculate my grades but Langara does not have a GPA Calculator on their website

If you go to your current institution account online and look at your unofficial transcript it will say your current gpa there... However not all schools use the 4.33 scale so that may not be helpful...

Or if you just want your gpa for the 5 courses you can add them up and divide by 5... 4.33 is an a+ , 4.0 an A, 3.67 an A- .... 3.33 B+, 3.0 B, 2.67 B-, and so forth.

My GPA is 2.72 and I'm not sure if I'll get accepted.

@lesfender, this intake does seem like a very competitive one but don't get discouraged! Not everyone they have made offers to so far will accept... From personal experience I can say that finally getting accepted has been a huge process. I went to SFU for a year in biology, and then took a year off and applied for psych nursing at Douglas. That turned out to be very frustrating as the points system they have for that program is mostly aimed at letting people who already have a degree in... So I worked towards that and finally got into all of the courses to apply for the RN program there- and worked very hard to raise my gpa only to find out that to get into nursing is a free for all not a competitive entry for second year... So I've applied around, and managed to get here instead of waiting around for a year at Douglas. From what I've heard it seems to take most people longer than they think to finally get into a nursing program, but if it's what you really want to do I would keep trying and if you don't make it this semester maybe apply at Douglas or vcc or retake a course or two to boost your gpa...

My initial path was to go for the RPN program at Douglas (where I attend now). Like you said, I don't like point system and I've been waiting for a year to get in. I'm giving myself a chance to try to get into Langara's RN program and I applied at DC for Winter 2016 in case if nothing follows through
