  1. Hi Rayanne, I would't worry about it too much, I applied with almost 40 credits and a high GPA and they said I did above average on the questionnaire and I still did not make the cut! Could anyone who got accepted comment on about how many credits they had? I'm debating between applying again for January with about 50 credits or just going to Langara's nursing program in September.
  2. I got shortlisted as well! Ahh! Good luck everyone!
  3. Hi Alyssa, I've applied for this intake too, and am also (in)patiently waiting to hear back! It doesn't seem like anyone has been short listed yet, and with the long weekend I doubt we will hear anything until at least next week. I am currently at Douglas college and am finishing up my academic foundations for nursing there this semester, with about a 4.1 GPA in 27 courses, and I have about 20 credits from a year of sciences at SFU preciously with closer to a 3.0 GPA. Not sure if 9 of those credits count though as I don't finish them for 2 weeks. I have been volunteering with Fraser Health and Coast Mental Health weekly for the last 9 months and also have been working at a Mental Health clubhouse on weekends for a couple months. My application says pending department review but I handed it in back in February so it's been like that for a while. So once they review all of your posted transcripts it will change to that. From what I have read on the previous threads they send out the shortlisting questionnaires in a couple of waves so it could be anywhere from a week to up to a month before we hear, but hopefully not! Also I have read in previous threads that they usually shortlist about 150 and only 96 or so get a spot. It also seems that the majority of people that get in have at least 50 or 60 credits so I am trying not to hold my hopes too high. I have gotten into Langara's program for Sept. as a back up. As for the bio credits I believe that the 5 year rule is only for the pre req. courses that are post secondary not high school! Good luck, and hopefully we hear soon!
  4. @skittles12 Yes I got in to langara! Have you applied for both as well?
  5. @lesfender- sounds like we've had the same struggle haha. I'm currently at Douglas finishing academic foundations this semester, even though I'm fairly sure patho and micro won't transfer to langara. I applied for winter 2016 as well for a backup. Douglas has been nothing but frustrating trying to get into programs and classes though...
  6. @lesfender, this intake does seem like a very competitive one but don't get discouraged! Not everyone they have made offers to so far will accept... From personal experience I can say that finally getting accepted has been a huge process. I went to SFU for a year in biology, and then took a year off and applied for psych nursing at Douglas. That turned out to be very frustrating as the points system they have for that program is mostly aimed at letting people who already have a degree in... So I worked towards that and finally got into all of the courses to apply for the RN program there- and worked very hard to raise my gpa only to find out that to get into nursing is a free for all not a competitive entry for second year... So I've applied around, and managed to get here instead of waiting around for a year at Douglas. From what I've heard it seems to take most people longer than they think to finally get into a nursing program, but if it's what you really want to do I would keep trying and if you don't make it this semester maybe apply at Douglas or vcc or retake a course or two to boost your gpa...
  7. Or if you just want your gpa for the 5 courses you can add them up and divide by 5... 4.33 is an a+ , 4.0 an A, 3.67 an A- .... 3.33 B+, 3.0 B, 2.67 B-, and so forth.
  8. If you go to your current institution account online and look at your unofficial transcript it will say your current gpa there... However not all schools use the 4.33 scale so that may not be helpful...
  9. I had to accept the offer as they only give two weeks to do that but so far I haven't had to pay anything. I won't find out about bcit until May probably and I'm not confident I will get in as it's super competitive so I might just end up at langara.. I guess I'll just plan for langara until the time comes and see if I have to make that decision! It's not like they aren't both good schools!
  10. My Gpa for the pre-reqs was about 4.1 but my overall was below that.
  11. Hello! I have accepted my offer for sept 2015 as well, still waiting on acceptance to bcit though which is my first choice!
  12. Hi everyone! I've also applied for Langara and BCIT for sept 2015. I am currently finishing up my academic foundations in nursing at Douglas, but because it's not a competitive entry for 2nd year I won't be waiting around to get in there. I currently have about a 4.0 GPA at Douglas and also have about 20 credits from first year science courses at SFU with closer to a 3.0 GPA. I have volunteer experience with Fraser Health at a Psych ward and also volunteer with Coast Mental Health, as well as a job with a part time position with the Canadian mental health association at a clubhouse. I am hoping it is enough to get into BCIT as my first choice but reading back through some of the threads here it seems very competitive. From what I have read Langara sends out offers within the next month but short listing for the non cognitive questionnaire for BCIT isn't until April... Wish you all luck, and hopefully when anyone hears anything they can post here for everyone!
