Lady of the Lake Accelerated ASN

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hi. I am very interested in the accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Can anyone give me any information on this program? I've seen the information that is available online. However, I am looking for information from experienced insiders such as: getting accepted, true level of difficulty, etc. This will be a major career change for me, and I do not want to make a bad decision. I have a 3.6 gpa from SLU w/ AA in OSH and BA in Gen Studies. I consider myself a capable, hard working student but all I have heard is HORROR stories.

Thanks!

CKP- Yes, I am at East Jeff! I am pumped! I knew about the orientatiom, but not the start date. Wow, i have been thinking all along that it started in late september! This is great; the earlier we start, the earlier we can start making some $$$. And yes im still looking for the pharmacology notes so i can be a little more prepared. I hear horror stories about how everyone fails out during pharm. Not this guy!

And not this hot mama, LOL! I want to be ahead also. I thought the same but called to ask a question, then ashe mentioned it to me. I was like glad I called!

I'm so glad for you, I know you were worried about having to do your back up plan, but hey now its on like donkey kong!

I was worried, but now everything has fallen together perfectly... My fiancee found out she passed the NCLEX on the day before I found out I got in. This was perfect timing with us getting married this coming saturday and having a week away from work to celebrate everything on our honeymoon! Waiting sucks but it was worth the wait i think.

Wow, what an awesome wedding gift! Congrats to your fiance! Leave all your worries behind with the whole program drama & focus on your big day ahead! That's what's really important when it all comes down to it!

So I am thinking about turning down my spot. I know it is crazy after all of the waiting and hoping i have done, but I got accepted into another program. Any advice? The other program is a traditional program (2 years). The problem with OLOL is that I would be commuting a little over an hour each way and I have three children. The other program is also a little drive, but I would be doing many of my clinicals locally. I'm thinking it may be easier on my family if i do the two years. Is it crazy to turn down the 10mth option?

I don't think I could turn it down, but that's me. I have a toddler and know how hard it's would be, but 10 months will fly by compared to two years! But, it is your choice. If you have any doubt in your mind, do the two year.

Lynn23- this is just my opinion, but I don't think you should turn it down, yes it will be a sacrifice, but its only for 10 months! I have had a lot of OMG moments that have occurred for the good since I found out, I saying good enough to rethink as well, but I can't turn down an opportunity to become a RN in only 10 months. Of course, only you & your family know what you can handle, so do what's best for you, just really weigh it all out before you make your final decision!

Hey everyone....I got in the Br location and finally found an apartment...@lynn23 i read your post and I feel that no one can determine whats best for you rather than you....Honestly a traditional program might be less of a load and you will have more time to be dediated to your family...However, I know ten months is short but if Nursing is for you rather 10mths r 2 years you will get it done. Do whats best for you and your family:)

lynn23- I basically agree with what everyone else has said about if you should do the 10 month program or not... you just have to do what YOU think is best. Additionally, I think it is better to have doubts now, than when you are actually in the program. We all know that the cost of the program hurts much more if you dont make it all the way through. Think of your options as investments. Which investment do you think fits you best.

Sugrad10- congratulations on getting accepted and finding an apt. I just got back from my honeymoon yesterday and have to start the house search ASAP! I think we start Aug 22. My goal is to put down my deposit when I have to go down for orientation.

How are yall coming along with all the paperwork/forms? I did all the LSBN stuff and am now trying to put a dent in the student health forms got all the vaccinations, but still need to go to the doc and make a trip to NOLA for the Drug Test.

My wife and I are looking at a few houses to rent on Tuesday after her job interview. I'm making progress, cant wait to get settled in and start school.

How is everybody doing?

Orientation is Friday for BR location...I am excited!!!!
