Lady of the Lake Accelerated ASN

Published

Hi. I am very interested in the accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Can anyone give me any information on this program? I've seen the information that is available online. However, I am looking for information from experienced insiders such as: getting accepted, true level of difficulty, etc. This will be a major career change for me, and I do not want to make a bad decision. I have a 3.6 gpa from SLU w/ AA in OSH and BA in Gen Studies. I consider myself a capable, hard working student but all I have heard is HORROR stories.

Thanks!

Now I am wondering if there is any chance that Metairie sends their letters out before Tulane? Is their admitting combined down there or are they two separate entities?

Hmm, that's a good question, I applied to both, but the letter I got requesting transcripts said SU semester, so I really don't know

okay, so here's something scary (for us older students, at least.) I was going back through the OLOL information just to make sure I know exactly what I need to take, and I came across this:

Transfer credits completed 10 or more years prior to enrollment at OLOL College and credit earned from another college or university while on academic dismissal or suspension are not accepted in transfer.

OMG! so I freaked out for a minute. I mean, I graduated college in 1997. Yes, I'm old. That would mean I would have to re-take EVERYTHING! Then I kept reading:

Students may petition to have courses accepted in transfer that were not accepted as a result of an initial evaluation.

And it also says: Acceptance of transfer credits earned at another accredited college or university toward degree requirements is at the sole discretion of Our Lady of the Lake College.

Whew! I assume they accepted my initial credits (regardless of their age) bc I got that letter checking off the credits I already earned. Crisis averted. :lol2:

But still...that first line is worded so matter-of-factly - "are not accepted." Sounds like no ifs, ands, or buts. Like if someone just looked really closely at my application, they would throw out those credits. And I don't want to call and ask cause that would just raise a red flag on my paperwork. Any thoughts?

Did you receive a paper with all the courses checked off as if they were completed?

I never got a letter with anything checked off, just saying that all transcripts were in. I'm freaking out now!

I think that this long drawn out process is making us dig too deep (I am guilty as well). I wouldn't worry about it, because I doubt there is anything you can do about it anyway.

@phormerpharma- I would be afraid to mention it because I wouldn't want to bring attention to it.

@curiouskaypee- Im sure that thing you got saying your transcripts were in was basically the same thing (I did not receive that. I got the checklist)

Yeah you're right I'm extra paranoid with the wait!

I know I totally overthink things, and I get a little obsessed sometimes. If they haven't said anything to anyone else about credits being too old, then maybe it's not really a hard and fast rule.

Sorry guys thats what I meant was the checklist with all the prerequ on it. And the checks next to it saying if it was completed or in the process. Thats all I received.

I am guilty as well as far as reading too much into everything. I keep going back to the website in hopes to seeing something different on there or some new information about the program.

Still just trying to be patient.

By the time we get our letters, all of our credits will be out of date smiley-music024.gif

LOL, @ least we all learning patience!

Ok, so I definitely gained some info that I thought was worthy of sharing... (Take it for what its worth) I called and they said decisions had been made, but the letters are not in the mail yet. They said someone is out of the office until Friday (I cant remember who this person is or what is her importance involved in sending out the letters). They will not be sending out the letters until she gets back, so I dont know if there is something she has to include in our letters or what. They said the earliest they could possibly send the letters would be Friday, but it could also be sometime next week, depending on what it is this lady has to do. Even though decisions have been made, they will not be informing applicants whether or not they got in over the phone or anything. I guess now all we can do is cross our fingers, and wait for that letter!!!

This was Tulane campus BTW...
