Hi. I am very interested in the accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Can anyone give me any information on this program? I've seen the information that is available online. However, I am looking for information from experienced insiders such as: getting accepted, true level of difficulty, etc. This will be a major career change for me, and I do not want to make a bad decision. I have a 3.6 gpa from SLU w/ AA in OSH and BA in Gen Studies. I consider myself a capable, hard working student but all I have heard is HORROR stories.
Thanks!
Lynn23: it was a look like, girl, you got this lol. But I may be overthinking it big time!! My stomach has been in nots ever since! I told my husband that any letter than comes from OLOL, he has to open it right away so he can break the news to me.
winniev: welcome to the thread!! I hope your husband gets in! Tell him good luck!
OMG! I can't believe we may know in a couple weeks! I can't take this anymore, its so nerve racking!
Also quick welcome to the thread ladies, this is my sanity forum, LOL!
Lynn23: wow, I know that look must have ease some nervousness, it would for me. Was there a lot of other candidates there, did you get the sense that it this will be a pretty rough journey for us all, meaning was there anything that seem impossible? Obviously, its possible since others have done it.
Winniev: which campus did he apply for?
They really didn't talk about the accelerated program, because they are doing away with is this semester. Most of the people that went to the open house were still in high school. There were only a few people, 5 at the most, there that had degrees already.
As far as the accelerated program goes, they just said that it a challenge. The classes are around 2 hours a day instead of 1 and clinicals tend to fall whenever the instructor is available. They actually had students doing their check-offs while we were doing the tour of the nursing school.
Thanks! I forgot about them doing away with it, they are going to change it to an Accelerated BSN program, right?
That's interesting. I thought after this year they were doing the accelerated program one more time before they changed it. Is this going to be the last class at OLOL in baton rouge? I thought maybe if I didn't get in this time I would have one more chance to apply. Did they say this coming class was the last?
Yes, the fall class is the last class for the accelerated ASN program. I'm not sure if they are changing it everywhere, but in BR, they are doing away with all of the associate programs. You will only be able to get a BSN from OLOL. That's why I'm really hoping I get into the fall class!

Wow thanks for the update! 2 weeks! My fiancé has been freaking out about whether or not I'm going to get in or not. She is finishing nursing school in April and actually already has her first interview for a nursing position set up for Monday. She has been looking in both NOLA (where I applied) and Shreveport (where we live). Now she can at least know when she is able to accept/decline jobs.
