Hi everyone!
I just found out today I am admitted to my program starting this May 22. I went straight out and bought a Littman Classic II SE. My little treat to reward all the stress that paid off and to kind of make it all seem real. Well I paid a good amount for this steth and I want to make sure it stays in my possession and doesn't walk away when clinicals begin. Can you get it engraved? If so where? Any other ways of labeling or tagging my newly beloved Littman?
Thanks!!
When you buy a Littman, there is a little form that comes in the box that you can fill out and send away to the 3M company for them to engrave your name and it costs about $7. If you can get the engraving done from another source for free then that's the route to go. However, this will not prevent someone from cutting off the name tag if that person is determined to steal your stethoscope. To be safe, keep it on your belt clip or around your neck at all times.

I had mine engraved and also very careful to keep it with me at all times. If one of the doctors asks to borrow it I tell them "I'll hunt you down like a dog if you don't return it" and they do making a point to say "here is your stethoscope". Thank you doctor.
I also made a tag for mine as well as for everyone that I work with as a Christmas present. I bought clear elastic beading string and strung my name and title with little white alphabet beads and then tied it on with several knots, it makes into a nice little circle. People are always asking where we got them. I've seen them in catalogs for $8.95. I made all 30 or so of them for that price. You can use the clasps but they don't hold up near as well as just tying it with knots.

That is such a great idea! I will have to look into that Thanks for the suggestion!
I was lurking a UK medical medical student w/s. They are having problems with MDs "borrowing" scopes, and never returning them. One class posted that they managed to get a special edition Classic II in baby pink, AND thet also had the tubing laser engraved.
My school suggests that we wear our scopes in a hip clip (where it won't be seen), NOT around the neck, and not lend it, even ONCE!

They really look cute! I used my first initial, last name and title. Several of the little latches broke but when we tied them on everything was perfect. Buy clear strong string, tie at least 3 knots and don't cut too close to the knots when you're done. About 1/8"

Okay - so, do they make 'hip clips' specifically for scopes or is this something generic that you can find anywhere? Not trying to sound dumb, just new at this, too.
:)
If you go to Allheart.com, you can buy labels for the Littman scopes. The package I got was like $5.00, it is a harness yoke piece with an engraveable gold plate.
they also have the hip clips as well, nice because when you bend over with a scope around your neck sometimes you will almost whack a pt

The only thing with a name tag is that it can be cut off or just plain taken off... I'd get it engraved somerwhere if you can!
